So I've been working through these bands on youtube today as I had not heard any of them. Mind you my reviews will be based off listening to youtube videos through my phone or work laptop.
Mourning Beloveth - I'm really digging these guys, the guitar melodies and tone while being based on traditional funeral doom are much more dirgey and evoke a different almost more remorseful feeling. The big thing for me is I really really like the clean vocalist. Vocals in funeral doom make it or break it for me, and I like both the old death growly stuff and the clean vox, but his clean vox are definitely on point. [listened to "Autumnal Fires"]
Mistress of the Dead - Soooo dark and dirgey (well at least this song) and the semi lofi / black metal recording is pretty freakin badass without being over the top. They definitely bring the atmosphere harder than most funeral doom, I can dig it. [listened to "I've brought you flowers"]
Wormphlegm - Very very dirty, its interesting but I almost get the feeling they are trying a lil too hard to fit into numerous very secular sub genre's. Not bad but not my thing, with funeral doom I gotta be able to feel it, and with these guys I don't.

[listened to "tomb of the ancient king"]
Challenge: Female FRONTED funeral doom? Not just female bass player but actual female singer. I've never found any.

C'mon, we're above that.
This isn't a metalsucks comment thread.

I wish I could care about minutae like that.

This isn't really doing anything for me.

I'm sure they "don't count" but what about Bloody Panda?

Man, that website...
Sometimes it is funny to see how angry people get about sub-sub genres though.

I just can't get into most funeral doom for some reason.

Hmmmmmm while they might not be typical FD by definition I would say its close enough to count for sure. Good call buddy!

Yeah dude Bloody Panda are awesome. One of my favorites.
I think there's definitely a void in this sort of music as far as women's vocals are concerned, though. Maybe I just haven't been thorough enough in my looking.

So I'm picking up a GEC9 pedal switcher in a trade, any experience with these?
I also got him to throw in a mastotron, which I haven't had the chance to listen to any clips of but I'm hoping it sounds good

Mastotron is the kind of pedal that that sounds great with a loud band - plenty of midrange, especially on the gated settings. The subs can be great or bullshitty depending on application, setup and luck. I have better luck with the ZVex pedals when they're the main distortion source. They can sound dark and punchless if stacked into more dirt, and they like to go first in a chain.

Funeral doom. Bleh. There are a few instances that get me (Asunder will always be one of my favorite bands of all time), but funeral and death doom very rarely do it for me.
On another note, I'm trading one of my Orange 4x12s for a 2x12 + cash. Decided not to go the 6x12 route, at least for now, and a 4x12 + 2x12 is much easier to move/frees up space in the van.
Also decided to TREAT YO (my) SELF and got this incoming...

Oh, and Sam Turner is almost finished with our album art. It is so over the top and ridiculous and just hnnngggg.

Also, in case you're wondering, the art is all VERY tongue-in-cheek.
