Damn that's some nice wood on that LP.

Weird old amp alert. I'd go for it but I kinda allready have one. It's a Kern (Soundtronics) 200 watt head that uses the 8417 tubes, same as mine. Some differences and the wiring looks like he'd gotten a bit better at it when he put this one together. Downside is the 8417's are out of production. Upside is it should be massively loud and awesome sounding.



Mines extremely heavy but this one doesn't have the funky military transformer so might not be so bad.

Sidenote: I have never gotten along with rats very well I've had to tried a few different models and nothing ever spoke to me as OMG THIS IS AMAZING!!! I guess I'm more in to wooly chug with some grit on it, RAT's had a thin fizzy quality that just didn't jive with me.

I'm just about done making the fattest fuzzy Rat, tempted to add a clean blend to it for bass use now.

Congrats on starting your dissertation! You going for your phd? What will your degree be in and what's your topic?

I'm really starting to want my phd - I've been out of school for three years now and said I would never go back, but I think having my phd may give me a leg up in my field (especially in this town) since most therapists just have masters degrees. Finances are the only real problem with that - wife, mortgage, car payments, future baby...all of these things demand that I maintain my level of income.

I may just get one of those really shady online phds just to have the title

Only doing my first BSC in Psychology. The dissertation is kind of hard to explain in few words, but I can tell you it's a write up of an experiment into complimentary effects and interactions between mirror neurons and affordances. I'll work out how best to say it and EDIT this post in a minute.

for us the dissertation is the oral defense of your phd work, along with your thesis it is the last requirement for phd

Online classes sound ideal for you. Minus it's just another excuse to not come out this way to jam. A leg up is a huge benefit now considering the demand for jobs and state of the economy being extremely fragile still. With a bleak outlook on the future of this country anything to give you a leg up and ensure finacial security in some form is a huge benefit. Plus online courses should be cheaper in theory.

Grad school, The biggest waste of 5 years of my life. Not entirely, but still. I would have a PhD if i had gone to a different school/Chosen a differnt advisor. 5 years and only a MS in Chemistry. BOoooo.

I'm sort of fine with it now, but it would have been nice making double what i make now. hahaha.

I do not miss writing my dissertation though. I lost about 40 pounds while doing it, Slept about 2 hours a night and lived off of red bull for 3 months. You guys can have that.

my advisors are pretty cool. I have 3 journal publications as of now so I can start shit going.

No amps with loops The earths have two slave outs, and another marked "recording output tape" but no inputs aside from the ones in front. the Soundtronics also has a slave out, no in. The ward GIM-9171A has nothing but speaker outs.
that's what I get for going with weird old obscure heads They do sound pretty fucking good though. running 4 amps is overkill anyways, but I'm always scheming about how to make it better/bigger/more

Maybe I should start looking for poweramps that could work with my setup and keep the extra head as a backup.

I'm with ya on the rats btw, just don't work for me. To fizzy and to much crazy feedback. Nicks pedal sounds really intriguing though as it sounds like he's worked out how to tame it. I'm gonna make tony get one and try his tony

Man thats a bummer, never understood why you would have a slave out but not a slave in or power amp in on amps. Another reason I didn't like the AD200B....


Agreed that Nick's pedal might take the demons out of the Rat pedal, I may just have to try one out eventually, after my bass OCD....

Damn. You go to the studio for one day, and You miss 10 pages. I'm up way past my bed time cause i did like 4 giant cups of coffee while screaming my nuts off.

Anywho. I recently got the new fuzzrocious pedal, the ram the manparts job which is a quick overdrive that he did based on a power amp chip. Running that into the elements has become my newest, favoritest sound. Yeah, I said Favoritest.

I'm torn between that and the Rat now. I love my Rat King, but Jesus, the RTM thickens and fills out the tone that the elements was missing. Love it.

Hmmmmm I may have to check that pedal out, that's exactly what I use the OCD for, and if it can be thicker and fuller I'm all about it.

I've owned like...six rats. A big box reissue, a Rat 2, a Rat Tail, a Dirge FKR, a Biyang Mouse, and now this. I only like this one, and the Rat Tail. They've ALL sounded different.

It's hit and miss, essentially.

Ron Ripper said the same thing, he has one RAT that's been on his board forever that he swears no other rat pedal he's tried sounds like. I still want to try an old big box LM308 and a bluebeard together..... you know for them Sunn O))) toanz.....
