Truth.

My point, apart from being a besserwisser (which was of course my primary intention - :facepalm:

), was that I don't think Roland goofed when naming it a digital delay - it's more that with the advent of true digital technology in guitar effects (with 1s and 0s) we've come to look at BBDs as being decidedly analogue.

best I've found are off eBay for like 40$ a piece.

I always thought of BBD as analog but from Skreddy's website:

Strictly speaking, BBD chips are a hybrid of analog and digital. They are analog along the amplitude axis, and digital along the time axis.

The sampling circuit is "active" or "on" only at the precise moment when it's taking a sample, which is when it gets a clock pulse. In between clock pulses it's "off"; i.e., it's completely ignoring whatever the analog signal is doing on the input.

In order to be truly analog, the chip would have to be continuously recording the incoming analog signal in both time and amplitude, which is not what the BBD chip is doing.

Those were always awesome. I used to go mess around with one and a fizmo at my local music shop. They had them both listed at 1k each (15 years ago) which was really high. They were a lot of fun and I always carry some ensoniq fondness inside.

I have the worst Gizmo gas but they don't come up much and when they do they're way more than I want to spend!

This thing just kind of fell in my lap, and I've always wanted to try one, so I'm pretty stoked. Apparently the keyboard has some issues, but everything else works fine so if I can't get it sorted I am going to mod it into a desktop synth.
