Those late 80s Roland samplers sound good. Worth the trouble to update IMO, so long as the cost isn't too crazy.

Old samplers do force a certain pace to ones workflow though, they move at their own speed and any young'uns can fuck right off! hahaha. I hope it works out, looks like a beast.

Started over from scratch, with greater consideration towards a lot of things, including incorporating external stuff more fluidly. Covered everything I loved about the old rack more comprehensively, cut out a lot of waste and overlap, and menu diving, and the only module I bought again was pico trigg.

I posted it before shortly after ilf has risen from the dead but it seems there were a few errors with the database. So here I post again my little home setup:

Yes, they are connected with Midi. I still need to find a way to make the Drumbrute the master clock but I'm currently missing a cable to do so.
It's a fun little setup and the kids enjoy it as much as I do. Double win. ;-)

I was caught with synths in a DIY living space thread, so here's a wider picture of that area - not focusing on the kick-ass use of tin cans on my ceiling.



Upper shelf mostly has non-functional project stuff stored out of the way; Roland SH-1000 with an operable SK1 resting on its keys, Crumar Performer with two Moog Satellite PCBs resting on its keybed.

Wall mounted stuff is Yamaha CS-01, Yamaha CS-01II, Alesis HR-16, Alesis HR-16B, and a Suzuki RPM-40 hiding behind the MPC

Functional stuff is on the rack: Korg EX800, Korg DW8000, a loaner TD3, MPC 2Kxl, Kawai SX-240 (with Tauntek modification and some broken logic supplying interface LEDs), Akai AX-73 . Unclear in the heap of a mess below that is a couple of broken SCI Six Traks, and a stack of mostly operational rack gear hiding behind the HT-700 box (that synth is not working either).

The little Kalamazoo amp DOES work, but both big green RCA mixers are awaiting restoration and the TR-606 perched on the lower unit also has some dead logic gumming up the works.

I'm probably at about a 50:50 balance between operational and project gear, and the majority of gear I own was inoperable upon acquisition. Forgive the mess.

Wow! I have a Roland SH-2000 (that needs TLC and calibration), but I haven't recognized the better, older brother. Kawai SX-240, Akai AX73 ... wonderful units that you have there!

Eurorack stuff!!! Borrowed several things from Vidret, incl the hertz donut (so good)

In March my brother picked it up for me. A Roland SH-2000 preset synthesizer. It was declared as defective, but overall the instrument works great. It is completely out of tune, the faders and keys have contact issues. The optical condition is superb, almost like new.


I have had too many projects this year. Renovating two rooms during spring and summer, plus a few synth repairs for a friend. This Roland SH-2000 that I received in March is still waiting on the attic for the cleaning and calibration process.

Now I just picked up its older brother, an SH-1000 (the first Roland instrument!) in terrible shape that is said to be defective (it powered on, but didn't produce sound, the seller said). All the potentiometer knobs are missing, as well as one of those paddle switch knobs. The black metal case with the controls has rusted. And I hope that no important parts are missing (most of the screws are, though).

This is going to be a long and tedious work to get it into shape again. But I accept the challenge!

Not exactly a synthesizer, but sort of. Last Saturday I won an ebay auction of a KEIO (pre-KORG) Mini Pops 3 drum machine. It was declared as defective, plus the name plate was missing and the seller had no idea what it was, so I managed to purchase it for under 55 EUR including shipping. The unit just arrived. And to my huge joy it works!

I don't know what the seller tried to do with it. He said that the lamp didn't light up when testing it. Maybe he powered it once with the volume/power switch turned to the "off" position?

Anyway, it sounds absolutely fabulous! I really enjoy combining those push-buttons. There are so many possible rhythm varieties, much more than expected! The Mini Pops 3 will stay here - it is definitely a keeper!

The knobs and buttons are crackling and everything is dirty, but I will clean that all as good as possible in the next days.

Okay, I didn't know that. On another website I read that Kraftwerk used this drum machine in the early days (must be on their nowadays "inofficial" second or third album then, before "Autobahn").

I finished cleaning the Mini Pops 3 yesterday and now the crackling noise has vanished. Sounds best through my tube amp so far. The pure signal through a mixer is not too good-sounding.
