Decided not to thread derail [as this reply is better suited for the video games thread] but the above reasons helped snap me out of GASing for next gen video games and consoles years ago; which was no easy feat as i've otherwise been a lifetime gamer who still has 90% of his consoles, games, accessories and old Nintendo Power/EGM/Gamepro mags dating back to the late 80s.

I am not on board with the current trend of monthly subscription fees that must be paid to continue playing a single game after its initial purchase...or in-game purchases to advance status rather than grinding and developing technique through strategy & problem solving.

This is the future of gaming; get the player consumed and tack on a ticking meter at every possible turn. Plus the gratuitous product placement and lazy sound scoring with b-sides instead of epic OSTs...blah. Too tacky for my taste, and I don't pay to play tackiness. AFAIC this is just another industry embracing greed as a sustainable business model, but these games all strike me as extremely disposable in spite of being visually stunning. There's a solid decade full of games that focused on advancing gameplay as well as graphics with a complete disregard for in-game markets and as such they have an otherwise unmatched level of replay value. Now everything is so overly complicated and makes me feel like
:oldrant:

MAME aside, I'd rather pump quarters into arcade machines. Sadly, they quickly began going out of style when a single credit hit $1. Ridiculous.

Fucking this. Mass Effect is a game that really pissed me off with shit like this. In 2 if you didn't get the Shadow Broker dlc you were behind on a kinda big plot point for 3. And for 3 they released it with dlc on day fucking one with what I consider to be a vital part of the story/character.

I've got no quarrel with Skyrim/Fallout style dlc that add to the story and/or come out after the fact, but fuck companies like EA who release spendy dlc at release.

Here's the thing about online DRM: It's never going away because it works.

There's still no working crack of Diablo III.

Consumers have no one to blame but themselves.

Also, Skyrim is fun on PC. A little too evil in the "I played for 6 hours and didn't know it" kind of sense though.

Finished the story of AC3 - still gotta complete the epilogue. Not exactly sure how I feel about the ending so far.

Probably start Dishonored or the Walking Dead next.

I'm finding that the deeper I get in STALKER: COP, the more I realize how much of it I missed the first time thru...I didn't do every last side mission then and now find that completing at least some of those is what unlocks a bunch of content that I'd heard/read about but couldn't find before. And I'm finding better guns this time as well.

Have you ever tried the multiplayer in COP?
It's a bunch of dudes sprinting around at the speed of light and blowing each other away with the over-under shotgun and slug rounds. God I love slugs in that game.
And when you get kills, you get a lot of money to buy more guns with, a la Counter Strike, so basically whoever does well in the beginning few minutes will be on top for the rest of the game.
The only time I ever played it online, it was an 8-player server on an office building map...you could climb the ladders on the outside of the building all the way to the rooftop. Someone on top had an exoskeleton and a minigun, and everyone else in the server was cooperating with their slug guns to take him out...although that never happened.
It was more like that scene in the Skeleton Warriors intro where a million skeletons are climbing a mountain to get to this dude , and he's just blowing them all away with a laser.

But it was still awesome. Stalker's the only game I've ever played where shots to the eye have their own kill icon. Headshots may or may not kill in one hit, depending on the weapon and distance, but if you hit 'em right in the eyeball they're out.

I gotta make a new game now that I can run it super well...but last time I was already at Jupiter, blehhhhhhh.

Used them in the 'kill the mutants in the train tunnel' mission last night w/my modded Mossberg...four rounds each to the head and go collect payment.

I tried MP for about 10 minutes total...ran across a similar guy to yours w/an exo and the unique gauss rifle. No way to touch him, even with a jacked-up sniper rifle from about 70/80 yards out and (if I do say so myself) good headshot skills. All I could think of was 'what's the point'...

Ugh, hard drive failure. Saved everything except for Game Saves.

Just Goddammit.

playing black ops II with a friend....what's all the hype about this game? seems like a painfully average twitch shooter just like every other CoD since 4 (which I enjoyed, but whatevs). I mean it's a fun time killer, but why all the critical acclaim? I guess if it ain't broke...

I really loved COD world at war online play for the wii. It's the only time I enjoyed myself on a COD game.

Old school LAN party Counterstrike will always be the best.
