And yeah, sometimes miss having a drone synth around. I may suck at keys, but I twist a mean knob.
I have had that small 8-bit synth for a while. Great little sound.. sequencer? I mean it's not a synth like the new one or even a drone box, you just choose a preset and manipulate it with the rate/pitch/filter/volume knobs. The sounds are very nice however, as long as you don't need a wild, super tweakable drone box but rather an assortment of clean, classic blips and blops. Also the CV in/out is very useful, that's what I use it most for these days, as a simple rate/tempo controller. Its battery has lasted for a long time now, too.

I'd definitely get the big, playable version if I were to buy such a thing now.

Thanks, this is great info. Sounds like something I'd dig. Will keep it in mind until next year, trying to have some months of research and saving funds right now.

There are a few candidates out there at the moment though. So we'll see how that shakes out. Although I already have enough synths, truth be told.
You have an Axoloti. Making insane drone synths is easy and awesome af.
Say axo 3 times in any thread and SLM pops up...

No one mentioned it at all. For me, drone synths are cool, but also extremely limited in terms of sound and longevity of usefulness. Why not have a something that can make a something and then another something and then another something as your ideas change?

I mean -- I guess it's "my thing", but I only bring it up when it seems like someone might be into it or its a useful suggestion. Honestly, I haven't patched Axo in months. I still think it's cool as hell, and a huge bang for the buck.

Should I start talking about my monome gear instead?

Please continue to tock about it all. I'm just here to look down and kick rocks.

You should buy a grid.

Legit though... I could use a litany of solar cells and a diesel generator.

Or if anyone knows those Tesla methods for power to just radiate in the air and be free... hit a brotha up.
Not Your Mother's Power Supplies is the new thread title.

Anybody powering their pedal board with a wind turbine?

No. But curious how are you using it? I don't think you went modular...

Mostly with the library of max apps that have been developed over the years. There are tons of great sequencers, loopers, and granular samplers to play with. Didn't go modular, but 3 of their grid-enabled modules (so far, more planned) were ported to VCV so have been trying those out too. Not interested in going hardware.

Probably getting a Norns now that there are a few diy kits coming out - the apps being developed for it look amaaaaaaaaaazing.

I wonder where the MFOS WSG units are, regarding playability, sounds, usability? (Music from Outer Space, Weird Sound Generator). Especially in comparison to JMT synths and other drone/noise boxes.

It's really hard to tell from most drone/noisebox demos, because they jump around from different settings, never really tweaking a specific, usable sound. This kind of 'short attention span' approach is not how I make music. Kind of like watching a demo of a pedal where the person doing the demo doesn't play the kind of music the pedal was designed for. You have to use your imagination to figure out how it might work for you.

I wish I lived near Perfect Circuit and could audition different units in person, since this equipment is expensive.

DIY Norns hype made me weak when I saw a used real deal unit pop up for a great price.

Incoming! :snax:

So proud of u!

Your Mother's could have had this synth but... I don't know it's something different and I've always had a soft spot for the Sigma. It was almost my first synth actually! A dude was selling one SCRATCH THAT! I thought about this. There is no way I would have passed that up. It was actually a Korg Lambda. I don't regret not getting that  for under $400 in NJ... but I hate traveling to that part of NJ and space was an issue at the time. I have a soft spot for these large impractical vintage synths.

Had no idea this was used for DIRTY HARRY! So much of my childhood makes sense now!

I enjoy Eric, the madman from Metasonix. If I had any sort of technical know how I would be making all sorts of attempts to clone his circuits and use unconventional tube choices.

Yes, thanks friend. I found that link around the time I joined the forum actually. I am a not even a novice. Not a squire. I'm not even qualified to shovel the horses stables.
