FF13. First hour thoughts:
- Chick looks kinda like Cloud (and her name is Lightning)
- Very Japanese (duh SE is a JP company, but I've never been so aware I was playing a JP game)
- An exercise in pressing X and watching cutscenes. I hear this doesn't let up for another 15-20 hours in

Speaking of SE, anyone play Terranigma? I wish they still made games that good...

Hours 2 and 3: I hope Vanille is 18.

Err yea I think that may have been a spoiler.
The crystarium or w/e is pretty neato, a billion times better than the sphere grid. So are the paradigms.
I still don't like how it's a bit cruise control-ish.
Lightning keeps inappropriately using blitz when I auto, but you have to dig through an extra menu to select attack so it sorta discourages you from manually attacking.

I got Final Fantasy and I may start playing it today. Absolutely ADDICTED to VII and VIII when they came out. I would have been in grade school and saved up forever having read it in a magazine subscription. Funnily enough a game that 'changed my life'. I learned a lot of my English playing video games and watching movies so it was really kool to be able to engulf myself in a culture like FF. I don't get the beef people have with VIII. It was fresh on the heels of VII for me and the system was second only to VII to this day. The card collection stuff was an amazing add on, the story line was set around a uni-type/half-real/half-slum type culture... really tapped in to a lot of what made VII so famous. The one thing I still don't get about the companies is why not RERELEASE their games?! They would make SO FUCKING MUCH $$$ and it would be bordering on ground breaking for the gaming industry (with HD graphics, obviously). Novelty or not, I've seen a lot worse out there and I'd definitely be first in line if that were the case.
IX, X and X-2 were major fail as far as I was concerned. I did like the side games in X though.
Oh well, I really do hope I enjoy XIII. I heard bad things about the 'Odin' battle through a friend and said he could be the Materia Keeper of XIII

If by bad you mean a crazy easy early mini-boss, I guess. Kinda sad seeing a character with a rich history (both within FF and Norse mythology) of being a total badass reduced to such a simple battle.

Heavy Rain...has anyone else played it?
It's been a blast so far...very different. It's like one giant interactive cutscene, and in a good kinda way (not like FF13 or MGS4).
It's kinda like Se7en the video game a bit.
Though there is one glaring problem with the game...the almost-American accents. None of the voice actors are American, and you can really tell.
For the most part it's decent, but occsionally they slip into these weird quasi-British/Irish/French accents that throw off the feel of the scene.
This SNL clip sums it up pretty well

Who else here likes humor based adventure games and platformers?
Psychonauts anyone?
Maybe a little bit o' the ol' Grim Fandango?
The monkey island series?
Torin's passage?

the acting was pretty piss poor. but the game as a whole is a neat new way to think about gaming. have you beat it yet? there is one detail about the ending that pisses me off sooooooooooooo much. it involves who the killer is.
