This far I like the basic chickpeas (duh)+garlic+cumin+olive+oil thing.
I do two variats where I also add either peanutbutter or sundried tomatoes. All three are real nice.
You need tahini and a little lemon in your basic recipe :!!!:
This.
Also, keep the water you boiled the chickpeas in and use add some to the hummus. It will make it creamier/easier to blend and give more flavour.
Always always always reserve the pot liquor from your legumes imo. It can be used for so much. That's flavor town baby.

I somehow hooked up a pretty decent cold, so I decided to make chicken noodle soup. My girlfriend is a vegetarian so I had to make some vegetable broth with onions and celery and carrots, and then some whole peppercorns, then I put in a can of pinto beans with the sauce from the can, about a cup of uncooked rice, and then some egg noodles and some kale right before its done. Separated some for the lady, and then added all the chicken off one of those whole chickens you can buy in the deli, Boom. Turned out pretty amazing. I cant really smell anything, but my son ate a huge bowl and requested it in his lunch for today, so I guess it's a win!

Wifey is out of town, and I immediately revert to bachelor mode. But not just normal bachelor mode of fast food or ramen or something. Like super sad bachelor mode where I just went to the 7-11 and got hostess cupcakes and beer for dinner.

Mmm mmm! Cupcakes and beer for real!

I cooked some casserole with like 9 types of cheese and cilantro and noodles and rice etc.. and then a bigass green salad. And then I liberally applied crystal extra hot hot sauce to the casserole and devoured it with impunity.

Made a basic chili with bottom round beef browned in the pan and then braised in a chili sauce of guajillos, anchos, and árboles seasoned with onion, garlic, cumin, paprika, oregano, star anise, and clove. It ended up being really oily so I dumped in two cups of Central American red beans I had already made from scratch a few days ago. Texans would hate me but it soaked up the oil very nicely and I like to "stretch my meat" when I can you know what I'm saying

Served it over hot white rice with lemon and lime wedges. :D

That sounds delicious! Chili definitely needs beans in my world, fuck Texas.
Made chili myself yesterday, with chicken though. Smoked paprika, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, oregano, garlic, onion, bell peppers, kidney beans (from a can :(), tomato paste, some beef stock with red wine in it and some chilies I had in my freezer. Ate it with bulgur and sour cream, was good.

Nice! I had bought a few bell peppers I was going to throw in there originally, but later decided I would roast and pickle them instead. Bulgur sounds like it could be a great side, I'll have to try that.

It's pretty good, has a bit more structure to it than rice, which goes nicely with a heavy dish like chili.
