Dude. You're older than me, so I know you had to be listening to music in the early 90's.

i ammmmm... about the most ignorant person in music that you'll ever find. AMISH PEOPLE have listened to the radio more than me.

i get obsessive about stuff that i love (Bjork, Aphex, Squarepusher, IDM, Tori Amos, Regina Specter, Russian Circles, Melt Banana....), but i honestly never listened to pop stuff that much. and don't know hardly anything about it. it.... frustrates other musicians around me.

"so, kinda a Jesus Jones/MC Somebody I Don't Know The Name Of/Goo Goo Dolls feel?"

"i.... i don't understand ANY of those references."

Welp, time to go watch the Black Hole Sun video.
That Barbie on the grill (or...BARBIE ON THE BARBIE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA :barf: ) takes me back.
Ripping the head offa my friend's Barbie and passing it around the room while two others were playing Mortal Kombat. She was crying. I kinda feel bad now but it was funny at the time.
Yeah.

Why are Laklands so hot

I hope I didn't come off like a dick, but I'm shocked that someone from your background (or anyone who lived through the 90's and was into any "alternative" music) could have gotten this far in life without hearing Outshined a few hundred times. And I don't think you can call them "pop" - they did get radio play and videos on MTV, but that could still actually happen to good bands in the nineties, unlike now.

I think that's about it right there. Cornell always looked "california" to me with his chin strip, shirt off all the time (back in the day), long rock hair and/or spiky punk hair, etc. And "feeling minnesota" is like the whole grunge aesthetic: in case you couldn't tell from the thermal underwear I'm wearing under my ripped jeans and flannel, I'm deep, edgy, angsty, and depressed, dude.

ah. SOUNDGARDEN. i was into weird electro, idm and Primus around then. didna listen to rock or grunge much. kinda avoided it even though a lot of friends loved STP and Soundgarden and all that. plus, Cornell's voice always bothered the poo out of me. the whole grunge thing made me....... unhappy.

i don't like being unhappy.

New bass was assembled yesterday:

Image

The unfortunate bit is I have to wait ~3 weeks to get my hands on it, as I opted to pay a visit to the shop while on a vacation nearby later this month and figured it doesn't make much sense shipping it to me just so I get it a week or two sooner. This will be the 5th Roscoe I've owned over the years, and make for two in the house currently. I can tell from the photos it's going to rock, but I know from experience (and have been told by the folks at Roscoe) that it's just that much better in person.

CAN NOT WAIT. Well I can, and will.

Thanks. I realize not everyone is into exotic woods and natural finishes, of course. I really like what Roscoe is doing with the Standard/Standard Plus models by taking away a number of the options and not going so crazy with layers of wood and such. When they started offering J-pickups last year I knew I'd have to have one. I love J-basses but hate the ergonomics of Fenders and similarly styled instruments. They look so sweet, then I put it on and the lower horn gets in the way of my wrist and the neck profile doesn't work for me, and so forth.

I'm happy other people dig traditional J-basses and solid finishes, because they make me happy to look at as long as I'm not the one playing :)

for sure. again, i'm not too into that style, but i CAN see the beauty and craftmanship in it. i ADORE my Dinger. i was a little worried 'cause i'd barely played fan frets before, but it is the most comfortable thing i've ever played, let alone owned.

so good that there's so many options for bassists now.

New guy. Crappy picture.

I may refinish it, put in a proper SD mustang pup, slap on some flats. I'm really enjoying the 30" scale, though.
