What did you think? I only got to try a little sample of it but I liked it a lot.

It was very "meh". Nothing really outstanding. Definitely not good for $11/six-pack. Too many cooks on this one.

I get what you're saying. And, that's why I listed my preferences also, because it may just be that the craft brewing styles here tend to line up with my tastes. America I think tends to be a place of extremes. There's not a lot in the middle. Most and least, best and worse, etc. And you definitely see that in what you were saying with the hops. I like over the top strong, dark, bitter, and heavy beer, but that's just me. When I have a lot of foreign beers now they seem like they're watered down, or like they don't have enough flavour.

Something I have noticed though. When I used to drink hoppier beers it was kind of one taste. But after drinking them a lot, over the course of years, I now can taste several different flavours in just the hops alone, and can distinguish between different types of hops easily. So now, it's a complex character of the beer that I used to not even be aware of. It's one of the things that has made me like this type of beer a lot.

Also, just noticed, you live like 15 minutes away from a bunch of my friends. I'm down there every once in a while on the weekends.

Yeah, I hear ya. And I like strong, dark, heavy and heavy beers as well, and I don't mind a really bitter beer from time to time either. But the craft beer market seems to be pretty much saturated with IPAs right now. They literally take up a majority of the craft beer sections at most stores I go to. I'd love to see some american companies embrace the more malt-forward or yeast-dominated styles, just for variety's sake. As I said, I think Ommegang does a fantastic job of that with all of their brews, and the Three Philosphers in particular. Another American example that is very very good is the Troegenator, a great doppelbock.

Yeah, Ommegang is pretty good. Three Philosophers I think I wasn't crazy about - that's cherry flavoured right? Or am I thinking of a different beer? Troegs is a really good brewery. Troegenator is good, and I also like the Javahead.

Yeah, Three Philosphers is a tripel with the sour kriek cherries in it. I know you said you don't like fruit flavors, it's cool. The standard Ommegang is fantastic anyway.

I don't like overly hoppy bitter beers.

The first "Craft Beer" I ever tried was not until 2001 when I get to the Spokane and someone gave me a New Belgium Fat Tire. It honestly tasted biscuity or crackery and I was like,....whoa,....beer with flavor!!! It was my first real beer and is probably still my favorite. Although New Belgium is getting a little big for their britches,....I just hope they don't get bought out by one of the bigger companies that like to ruin the little guys.

Since then I've had some really good beers and some really bitter beer where it just seems like they are catering to the hops lovers. I don't mind hops but I don't like the beers that over do it (Deschutes Hop Trip and Inversion IPA among others that I'm not remembering).

Then there are those really high ABV beers that I'm just not into. Maybe I haven't tried the right ones (Spaten Optimator and Pike Kilt Lifter) but they are just way too sweet and too alcoholic and they make me feel too full and usually like shit the next day. around 7% ABV is my limit,...at that point I'd rather drink wine.

I have yet to try Port or Mead. Honestly I don't do a whole lot drinking these days. When I do it's usually at rehearsals and it's usually PBR, Rolling Rock or High Life,...cause we are cheap.

Around 9-10% is my sweet spot. I like above that, but those beers tend to be too expensive.

He either meant >5% or it isn't beer,....or beer with greater then 5% ABV is something other than beer,....like grain wine with malt and hops and carbonation added.

that and buttwiper calls itself the king of beers... coors is the banquet beer... however, if you want to celebrate you bust out the champagne baby!!!! YEAH!!!!

old style is my neighbor beer of choice...

IPAs... there are way too many of them. southern tier 2XIPA is outstanding and amazingly well balanced for such a hoppy beer. i really like the anderson valley ipa. well i did but it has been a few years. all of the anderson valley brews are very good! i love the ESB....

brown ales... probably my favorite of them all when done right... problem is they are getting pretty hard to find unless they are overboard like bigchief had been talking about.

STOUTS!!! i love some stouts. dark horse brewery has some nice stouts. a blueberry that is bells brewery also makes some nice stouts. it has been a long time but maybe 10 years ago i had a bells rye stout that was possibly the best stout i have ever had!
