About VCOs :

The thing is that, as you mentioned, many modules can perform several functions. A lot of VCOs work as LFOs too. A lot of filters can self-oscillate (and track 1v/oct) and thus work as great sine oscillators too (and more with some patching).

So far in my 7U 84HP I have as "pure" VCOs :
Dixie 2 (works as an LFO)
STO (no real LFO mode but has a nice waveshaper)
Pico VCO (works as an LFO)

And two self-oscillating and v/oct tracking filters :
uVCF
Cinnamon

And other dedicated sound sources :
VCNoiz (also does modulations though)
Equation Composer
Radio Music
Basimilus Iteritas Alter (which is a full voice in itself)

I will quite probably replace at least one of Dixie/STO with other modules (one of them could be a uBraids) at some point.

It all depends on what you want to do, but it's nice to have flexibility in a small system.

RE: Sound sources,

Don't rule out slope generators as VCOs. I don't think Maths or Function sound great and their range is pretty limited, but both the Random*Source DUSG and the Befaco Rampage sound fantastic and the DUSG tracks 1v/oct. Those are very, very, very multifunctional in a small system.

every time i sit down to get time into the Squarpamid i get distracted by fun times. dabnabit.

all the drums from the BitBox (clean plus into TRSHMSTR then out to a delay on the H9 and a verb on the Big Sky with tiny filter notching on the KP3) and the end 4 Vox bubble is sequenced from the Pam's.

this was just getting a few parts down real quick, working on making an actual song thinger out of it?

Ever get bored with only one filter?
Never bored. I don't really care about filters that much. LxD is kind of a filter, anyway.

You can even 'sweep' LxD if you feed an offset into CV

Filters are not just about resonant sweeps, do not underestimate the utility of things like simple bandpass and highpass filters, especially when your patch has several different things going on at the same time...

Or filters that work with CV, like the Random Source VCFQ

also, i didna plan to grab anything else till i get a larger rack, but i doooooo have an Erica Synths Sequential Switch en route. because playing with the Doepfer one is FUN.

want MORE CONTROL.

Right on, but I only ever use two osc voices, and one has hp/lp. So it's enough to get one or the other 'out of the way.' But yeah, I think the general feeling about filters is that they are swept not static, probably because the 1980s happened.

Oh happy day! The SPO came back from a repair from WMD, the rest is new.

Yeah.

I just got a make noise FXDF in and it is super fun and powerful having a multiband fixed filter. I like sweeps and swoops too but this creates some very cool timbres.

Oh hey guys...

I did a demo of a module that turned into a half hour freak out... But I whittled it down into an eight minute cut... It's a good look at my system, at the moment.

I don't use it a ton in the video, but I'm REALLY into the Pittsburgh Double Helix. Mysteron is also some trashy fun...
