Hey, guys, i need your opinion
so my project Apis Ante Portas (signature) is coming to life

i found some awesome musicians, so i'm slowly recreating the sounds i recorded for live usage...
I've used a lot of heavy fuzzes for recording, lately i've been layering Fix'd Fuzz and Pharaoh. The Fix'D Fuzz isn't going anywhere, because it'S my perfect lead tone, it's great for fucked up fuzzes as well and it's just too good
I've lately been playing in a band situation with Pharaoh and haven't been really happy with it, mainly because it's NOT palm-muting friendly. And in AAP that might be a problem to me. so i'm looking for a PM friendly thing that'S heavy and fuzzy - i usually find distortions too polite and boring
i'Ve been offered a Black Forest in trade for my Pharaoh. Could it be a good swap for my needs? I don't have a problem with stacking and i think that a booster, Fuck OD, Fix'D Fuzz and Black Forest Might bring SO MANY GOOD TOANZ... could Black Forest be used for nasty heavy fuzzy sound that's PM-friendly?
thanks, i just need some ideas on this

And some of you have helped me a great deal with choosing the right effect before

I would say no. It gets hairy, but not in palm muting territory. I'd honestly try a LSTR if you can, I found that to be more on edge than the Pharaoh or Black Forest.
I've honestly not liked putting the Black Forest after my fuzz like a lot of people have suggested. Although its got a fuck-ton of low end, its not got as much as my Tall Font. It's good for pushing the Tall Font, however. I really dig the FAC control, its really interesting how it interacts with different guitars. It's a great overdrive, but as far as using it for palm muting I think the only way you'd be able to do that is to drive the shit out of your amp

i'm more of a pre-fuzz OD fan myself to be honest and i thought it might push the Fix'd Fuzz nicely

Agreed unless your driving an already high gain amp with the BF. The LSTR is the most aggressive/palm mute friendly of the bunch by a long shot.

It should. And the fact that you can dial in the heavies gives you even more control

hmmm, for me the black forest worked very good for palm muting in band situations
btw, if i really do start a second band the black forest will be the first pedal on the board (had that thought earlier today) - it just worked very very well when i checked it out in the practice room.

yeah this thing sounds super chuggy to sludgetastic depending on how you eq it. very versatile and it sounds great taking in other fuzzes.

I never paid much attention to this thing but since it still gets so much love, I'm interested.
Can the Black Forest do a low gain, dark, gritty thing? Any demos that demonstrate that?

Okay, so I fooled around with my Black Forest for a good hour tonight, and I take back the zero palm muting. It does do it, and it retains the clarity of it as well.
Also, oldangel, it does do the low gain dark gritty thing. I'm not sure of any demos, but the 2 band EQ really helps you dial in how bright or dark you want it!

yup. mine is in b/s/t because of too much gas. but it is a superb pedal.

I've been thinking, and i might seal the trade... the thing is that Fix'D fuzz can get pretty heavy and quite palm muting-friendly itself so i might not need the other heavy fuzz... frankly i used two different fuzzes mainly for the texture... so i can use Fix'd as my main weapon of choice and just flavour it up with either Fuck or BF... plus stacking BF and Fuck? could be nice
thanks everyone

Black Forest into Pharaoh and you can palm mute until your heart's content.....

It looks as though i just sealed the deal with WeHuntKings
so the plan is having a booster, Fuck OD, Black Forest and Fix'd Fuzz, booster pimping ODs up, ODs flavouring Fix'D Fuzz up... might not work, but at least i get to try the Black Forest

i will probably end up getting another one somewhere down the line. such a great pedal. sounds amazing into a cranked bassman at full tilt.
