I've had maple neck strats on my mind for a few weeks and tomorrow I'm gonna go and take ownership of an '83 black Tokai Silver Star, fully set up with my strings, for a good price!

But I still want a maple neck strat with a fucked up tobacco sunburst, too....

Does anyone play pedal steel/lap steel much? I've seen a couple of baritones and a 7 string teisco and I'm thinking it'd be a rad texture to have around for some Nick Cave esque stuff

I've always wanted to get on of those 6 string Gretsches that are relatively cheap. It's like a 12 string. I'm really curious but I've never pulled the trigger because I'm afraid the new flavor will get old very soon and I'll never be able to sell it for a decent price

There must be plenty available on your size of the pond. Maybe get something cheap used, and see if it fits your sound?

like to keep it pretty simple these days. i just sample everything into the SP.
bringing one box instead of a myriad of gear is a lot easier/(&safer) to manage.
up until a couple weeks ago i had a generation loss smashed in there.

I play the lapsteel. Have a Recording King Lapsteel which I have owned for 3-4 years now. Cheap but good.
Also had a Pedalsteel for some time, but didn't really have the time and patience to learn it well, and I needed cash to go on tour, so I sold it.

But lapsteels are awesome!

Listen to swans, that's another non-country use of lapsteeel that's badass. I think Lunacy of the Seer is a hood example. Although it's under effects for most of the song.
