there aren't many places in America i wouldn't go to if you paid me. Florida is one. i visited in 1968 when i was 11, and just fucking despised everything about it.

Bought beyond burgers from cosco.

They smelled like dog food.

They had fake blood/burger juice.

They tasted like rotten peas.

They went in the bin.

So thankful for backup garden burgers.

i have never understood why so much vegetarian food, especially commercially available grocery products, goes to such lengths to evoke actual dead flesh products. when i had my vegetarian years i didn't want to be reminded of a fucking steak...that's what i was trying to unlearn. fake burger blood is just plain weird.

That is incredibly weird. We've been making a lot of meals from the Thug Kitchen cookbooks, which are incredibly vulgar and completely vegan. I'm not at all vegan, but we made these bean burgers and they were delicious. I don't understand why people want fake meat

:idk: I don’t get it either.. buying the things was not my idea... I find most of that stuff inedible... but fuck.. those things were nasty... it really gave you the experience of cooking gross meat... splattery grease, sickening smell, pinkish fluid oozing all over, spongy texture.. I never liked meat all that much when I stopped eating it all together when I was 17. This really brought back having to take care of my great grandmother and having cook meat for her when I had just given up eating the crap..

I’m usually happiest with just making falafel patties for that type of thing..... I really do need to start the journey into reproducing the good earth planet burger...

So much on the same page down to when I went veg. Puts me in a weird place sometimes where Missus Fission is omnivorous and likes the things about meat and certain faux products that disgust me. I really like the Amy’s “burgers” because they are so far removed from meat.

thanks gang - it was one of the most disturbing things i've ever seen, and to have happened to such a sweet creature (and not all birds are so sweet) - heartbreaking....

You gotta think of the appeal to the people who don't say they were vegetarian or vegan and instead opt for the phrase "plant-based'.
