Yeah, you just have to scald the milk.

First had it when I visited Newfoundland, a trip where I also got to enjoy cod tongue, seal flipper pie and moose spagetti. All of those far superior to any Cuban sammich I've ever tasted.
Everyone knows that the donair is king of all foods though.

Donair is just...
okay. It's probably fan-fucking-tastic if you like your meat-mulch sandwiches drenched in a super-sweet sauce.
I prefer shawarma. Or falafel.
For a while I was hearing a bunch of folks yammering on about "Authentic Ottawa-style" shawarma. Turns out it's just shawarma for
people whose point of reference for shawarma is Ottawa. There are a lot of shawarma places in Ottawa, but Ottawa hardly invented it.
Perhaps I don't know it well enough, but to me the city of Ottawa feels like a pair of pleated tan pants. Just not much style or pizzazz.
There doesn't seem to be a "center" or adhering principle to Ottawa. As a city it just doesn't make any sense to me. As a city Toronto
thinks of itself as the "New York of Canada", but it's actually more like the Chicago of Canada. Or an experiment in suburban sprawl that
got out of hand. There is some great food in Toronto, and it is very multicultural... but the problem is that it's sprawling into a vast
commuter nightmare.
Of all the places to live in Canada, Montreal is the best
city. No contest. The food is fantastic. The vibe is good. The weather
is shit but the people are undeterred by it, and get out there even in the depths of winter to go out for dinner and drinks.
Any American dissatisfied with the prospect of a Trump presidency should do something about it and vote. Because if they try to
immigrate to Canada they will probably be shocked to learn the extent to which US politics impact the politics and day-to-day life
in Canada.

Brisbane is the sad little brother of Australia.
It grew up from a distance, living with Grandad on the farm in Queensland, and then Sydney and Melbourne would call or send pictures of the cool shit they were doing.
Brisbane tried so hard to keep up.
Sydney hit the drugs in the 80s and got a bit rough, Melbourne got a fine arts degree and became too much of a wanker, almost disappearing off the map and up its own arsehole.
But Brisbane got a real job and a trendy car, tries to smoke joints at parties and talk about existentialism and postmodernism, still thinks David Bowie's Low is a great album to put on at every fucking gallery opening and trendy beer cafe, just to show its got some cred.
But deep down, it knows that grandad was right when he said lights out at 9:00 on Saturday Night, put your feet up in your slippers and have a cup of tea.
So for those of you considering the hemispherical jump, this is me selling my town.

On the topic of futures, I'm no expert, but when you start making money out of money and speculation rather than reflecting the real world, things have the potential to get dicey. I'm highly wary of the financial sector, and any mention of deregulation and/or tax cuts in the name of laissez faire or trickle down or whatever nonsense makes me want to beat the person saying it to death with a history book.
On the subject of Montreal, when is a good time to go? I have been thinking about traveling there for a while now.

Like with many places, spring and fall are the best.
But... those seasons can last sometimes only a few weeks
or so before cold rainy/snowy winter or brutally humid summer.

Best time to be in South Florida is the dead of "winter" preferably January or February. You get pretty awesome non-soul-crushing weather and all of the tourists are gone.

So back on topic I found some earnest drivel on trump because he was here the other day and this breaks out comment sections, but I was struck but just how cleanly this encapsulates what I suspect is the 'typical Trump voter'.
The country is a mess because politicians suck, the Republican Party is two faced & gutless, and illegals are everywhere and Muslims are openly trying to hurt this country and make the civilized world adjust to them. We want it all fixed!
We don't care that Trump is crude, we don't care that he has changed positions, we don't care that he fights with Megan Kelly, Rosie O'Donnell, and so many of the elected establishment. We don't care that Rubio, Cruz, Ryan, the Bush's, and so many other top old and new Republicans refuse to endorse him for their own selfish reasons, and we know what they are. We don't care that he doesn't know the name of some Muslim terrorists, we don't care that he tried some businesses that didn't work out.
This country is weak, bankrupt, our enemies are making fun of us, we are being invaded by illegals, we are becoming a nation of victims, where every Tom, Ricardo and Hasid is a special group with special rights to a point where we don't even recognize the country we were born and raised in, AND WE JUST WANT IT FIXED. And TRUMP is the only guy who seems to understand what the people want.
So, you know, xenophobia, boogie men, nativism, and no actual understanding of how the world works but appealing to the guy who says he can fix it.

What if there was a Native American candidate?
I wonder how they'd feel about that statement....

Y'know, that'd actually be an interesting race.
Even more so if they were a Republican rather than a Democrat.

Idk if you'll read it or get turned off by the headline, but it's worth checking out.
