I'm still struggling a bit with gain staging, and it doesn't seem to like power from my Strymon supply (which apparently ramps up power, when connected) but other than that Cloudy seems like a winner.

What do you mean by gain staging?

Also, isn't cloudy updateable? How does one connect it to a computer? Is there a USB connector somewhere.

It's probably ISP headers instead of USB.

Clouds and gain was weird in the original format. It was a bit too washily quiet to me but overdriven at the same time? It was just hard to get it all setup with the right volume for the sound I wanted. Spectre and others were easier and more immediate in eurorack to me. It's probably going to take some fiddling to find a sweet spot with your guitar setup and levels but interested in what you all come up with!

Clouds just had a lot to take in and I could have been in some weird mode that I didn't think I was in half the time too. The menus in a lot of euro confused me. Haha.

His pcbs are the best! I've read a lot people have issues with multiple pedals not getting along with those power supplies so that's definitely a bummer.

Yeah, the multifunction mix knob on the OG Clouds is a bit of a pita, esp. on top of all the modes (especially if you're running Parasites or Kammerl). It's nice to see that Tomkat broke that out some like Monsoon does. I agree with lordgalvar though that Clouds' sound isn't the most immediate. Part of that is by design of course, and it varies by mode. I also think Emilie is giving good advice to modulate modulate modulate (and attenuate attenuate attenuate) for best results. I'll be interested to see how that aspect works in Cloudy. It's clear Tomkat has given it some thought

The Gain Staging issues I'm having include a basic bypassed/enabled mix (which wasn't an issue on the Eurorack module), a wet/dry mix, and a frozen/unfrozen mix. I've gotten pretty good for the wet/dry, but less close on the other two. This is after only a couple hours though.

I hadn't thought about the upgrade thing. I'll open it up and take a look with that in mind.

Yeah, this may end up on a mixer send or something where there's less to go wrong.

At least on Cloudy the mix controls are all on the panel as individual knobs.

Dandolin: yeah, that mix knob was wonky sometimes. I never got the hang of it. Modulate the heck out it sounds like a good tip though...will help keep it more distinct.

I like the changes that tomkat made from a function stand point. I just know clouds ain't for me. A boss dd-5 is good enough though

Frozen/unfrozen was kind of a problem in eurorack for me (as was wet/dry).

The bypass/enganged mix thing (I'm guessing extreme volume change?) Is something I've seen a lot of weirdness lately with the more digital effects. I think some people are/were designing more expecting everything to be right around line and then keeping the output there (zeropoint was a good example or some old digital delays) vs guitar players being more used to gain stage stacking (kinda like how the bitquest is setup). (Which would be less a problem in a synth environment because everything is kind of more at unity and vca'd). I dunno though. Just guessing.

Digging into mine and I agree that “unity at 2:00” is optimistic. Im cranking the output to get unity with the input set to avoid clipping.

That trim pot is only for the stereo out:
"Cloudy has a mono input and a stereo output via TRS output jack. There is a "Pan" knob that interacts with the stereo output of some modes. The mono out volume is controlled by the "output" knob on the front of the pedal. The second stereo channel has an internal trimmer for it's output volume."

Aaah, I see. Hope I can get unity volume. Nothing worse than pedals that makes your overall signal weak.
