So the new WITTR kind of sounds like Sunn mixed with the twin peaks theme.

I like it, I think.

Good call. I have similar sentiments on it.

was it absolutely atrocious? i used to dig their records a fair bit, but the times i've seen them live it was some of the absolute worst live sound and flaccid performance i've been subjected to, and that has consistently been the review from almost all my friends who've seen them at various times in various places over the years.

Really? I have seen them twice and they have been amazing both times. Although if you're judging based on "stage presence" or whatever that's probably why. I don't like theatrics or anything like that. If it sounds good, it's good. For me, other stuff generally takes away from a performance.

well, my problem with their stage presence was really more that it was really corny and kind of embarrassing to watch. maybe they're better about that now. they just were doing all these really dorky little moves like it's what they thought they were supposed to be doing or something. it didn't feel sincere and to me that's the most important part of a band's "stage presence", that it feels sincere when you're watching it and they don't seem like douche bags. for that reason a lot of my favorite bands to watch are generally just a few people on stage playing music and rocking out, wearing the shit they usually wear and not saying anything between songs. I am open to a lot of things depending on the band, but in general i don't like much in the way of theatrics either. people wearing corpse paint and saying dumb shit in their metal voice between songs is totally not my bag so i'm not complaining about that. it was more just that i found myself wincing or rolling my eyes at how "cool" they were acting. all while they sounded like fucking shit.

which is really my main complaint. do whatever you want up there and if it sounds really good and i like the songs i'll overlook an awful lot. their guitarists both had these crappy, fizzy sounding quiet amps and the bass player didn't even have an amp. just straight into the PA. it was just super weak and they're up there doing the foot on the monitor shit and all that. give me a break. my friend played a show with them in chicago and they didn't even have amps at all. just line 6 pods straight to PA. he described it as sounding like a couple of leaf blowers. which fits pretty well with what i've seen. it's been a few years though. hopefully they've improved on those weak points. it's entirely possible. i know billy anderson does sound for them now, which is sure to help. hopefully they've taken a trip or two to the amp store as well.

The couple times I have seen them they mostly just stand there and play. And they definitely had amp setups.

I can't support anything Aesop Dekker does. I remember seeing Ludicra in a bar in LA and after the set people wanted an encore and I heard Aesop say "they don't deserve an encore they paid $5" to the bass player, they played the encore.

Also they are playing at a venue 4 blocks away from my house on Monday, might go there solo if I'm bored :idk:
