The AOR has a few quirks. There's one resistor that always gets super hot. Flip the PCB over and you'll find a nice scorch mark. Half the ones I've seen have a replaced output transformer too, though that's probably just par for the course with cheaper amps and people not knowing how to hook em up.

Guy on a local NZ forum rebuilt one for a mate on turret-board. Although he then went a bit too far and started modding the thing to be all tight for the metalz...

Hmmmmm, cheers dub, I'll keep an eye out for it next time I'm in there.
I have the 6 knob version from 86. Pretty sure the iron is all original. I am savvy with ohms....sadly some dickheads aren't (goroth owned this one before me though, so my guess is there will be no dramas there).

That thread looks interesting. Will read it thoroughly. Not going to be modding for tightness. I like the sound way too much as is. Just don't want to have to worry about things fucking out on me, which looks more like wear and tear than dodginess at this stage.

while your on the line here nick
can you explain preamps to knuckleheads
i mean i kind of get it
but i assume my amp already has a preamp
can ones in pedal form just be used as distortion/od pedals
like i wouldnt have to bypass the preamp in my amp to use one?

really, any time i see the word preamp im not interested

Preamp can mean many things. In an amp the preamp is everything up until the phase inverter. tube amps are running signals that are very large. A regular 12ax7 gain stage can swing 50-60V amplitude before clipping. In order to make a pedal into a preamp it just needs a sufficient large enough signal swing to properly drive a power amp to peak power. That particular signal swing depends on the power amp, some are more sensitive than others

Well the Holy Mountain is a dirt box, rather than a preamp proper. But the short answer is yes.

if you are using it to drive a power amp then its acting as your preamp.
