I think this applies to all of them, maybe not in the way slk meant it, but jumping in the deep end is the best way to learn to swim when it comes to recording. I am a HUGE fan of ableton. Very awesome stuff in there. I am constantly learning new things it can do and ways to do things faster and easier.

My best idea ever when it came to this stuff (may not have actually been my idea) was to make a template file that I always use as a starting point. So when I find a thing that makes the vocals sound better, I just leave it on the template for next time. It makes setting up to record a single click process.

I'd also recommend at least a mid level interface to start with. If you are here, you by default almost certainly put more thought and effort into any musical endeavor than most people do. So I very much doubt the capabilities of say a two input interface will suffice.
I'm currently using the Scarlett 18i8 and its awesome and a great upgrade from the 2i2 I was using before. both sound great, the 18i8 just has more inputs. I'ma allready thinking abouut the need for more though....

I still have the 2i2 so if anyone needs it, hit me up. I was going to start bringing a laptop and a couple condensers to shows but with the rig complexity we have and everything that goes on I don't think worrying about recording our shows is up there on the priority list. Doom bros discount and all that of course.

Wildbelor and Whisk, can you guys cc me your convo about the HOLFY FUCKING SHIT MOUNTAIN! I'm pretty sure he has the same thoughts I am having about it and no need to double the correspondence.

Nic. Fucking beautiful man. Dear god I don't now how you dont just keep them all, all the time haha. Especially dig the octo etch. Wild.

Skully! SO wish nick would hurry up and invent the DR teleporter so we could go visit all you on the wrong coast. Have a killer show man. wish I could hear it in person.

Odont - agreed, maple board with black blocks seems weird but right all at once. I need one in my life. Maybe a black, single pickup jazzblaster.

Nick - pedals look fantastic. One of these days I'm gonna not have a depleted pedal fund when you release a new batch and get on that ish.

Sam - I don't know shit about recording software either. I just throw a usb mic on the floor and run it through Audacity and call it a fucking day

Good luck tonight, Skully - I'm sure you're going to kill it serenading babydirge with teh dronez.

Lots of good stuff here. Someone should definitely nab that 2i2 -- they sound fucking awesome.

If I can find a place to make a pickguard for it this will be a single pickup all black badass mother fuck face. Sadly nowhere I have found will make one that fits. :(

Yeah -- I think that I wouldn't mind having an interface that had a few more ins. I wouldn't mind something like 6 or 8. Just to be able to capture a little bit more. Fuck it.

Just answered some questions about running the Holy Mountain as a true preamp over in the shark tank if anyone is interested!

Dude, dremmel tool and busted cymbal. BAM! Custom as fuck.

I still am having the gas for that holy mountain. Stupid distance and physics and shit making it all inconvenient to just swing by and try it.

If Nic does end up getting an Aus tour box together and I end up getting my hands on it, I will definitely do my best to post some quality videos Axman.
I've been meaning to get some demos of all the dirt I've borrowed this year, plus some of my own faves for the demo/settings thread, but I'm limited to using my phone or a camcorder, and as we know, BAT stuff (which is what I've mostly been getting my hands on) is not done any justice at levels a camcorder mic can handle.
I've been pressed for time, too, but I can definitely make time for a tour box.

I really want the holy mountain just so I can be a wanker, set it to Self Defense tones and riff the fuck out. Everyone is gonna be all "ah yeah, got that Dopesmoker-doomlawyerz-sativa lattice goin on".....but I really wanna thrash and crush skulls with it.

Got to have a play with the AOR again this arvo. The other day I swapped some of the old tubes out (except the Amperex.... ) for a JAN 12at7 in v1, and some tungsols in v3 and PI. They sat a lot sturdier in the sockets and seemed to eliminate a lot of that wierd hum. Hopefully that was all the prob was. I'll probably still order some new tubes and tighten the sockets properly, clean some of the pots. Should fix the basics.
I'm highly suspicious of the power filter caps so I'll probably do them as well. No chance of fucking em up like the Sovtek. The AOR is laid out nice and clean, and makes sense when you look at it. NO COMMUNIST MYSTERY SPACE CAPS! NO STRANGE VALUES!

Any recommendations out of Weber, JJ or F&T for caps? I'll probably end up with the F&Ts as the tubestore.com stock them and that's where I usually order my power tubes from.

F&T are really good man!
Also, I've been making a list of what is required for the tour box - if you can get some people interested up your way - lets go for it!

I have some really puuuuuurrdddy videos coming up in the next week so keep eyes peeled!

Sweet.
Yeah I've heard F&T go the distance. Reliability is my biggest concern.

I have a few mates I could rally for a tour box party. Can put word out :thumb:
