Sorry to hear it, IP. But I get it. I deleted the thread where I talked about all this for a number of reasons, but...you have my sympathy. And re: safety--yeah. My kids are not allowed to hang out with grandma without myself or my wife also in the room.

I think I remember that thread.
I can't remember if I contributed or not but I have a feeling I avoided it as it occurred at about the same time he decided to threaten my father inlaw's partner with a knife and I had basically nothing positive to contribute.
Up until that point I'd had some empathy for him and was willing to work with him and support him but in the aftermath of all that happened it became very obvious that he would neither want not accept help (particularly from myself) and that he thought the fault lay with everyone but himself, despite actively self-sabotaging (to claim the role of victim eternal).
Basically it got fucking messy and I had waning trust for him with my kids before that event which was well and truly shattered by it.
Narcissism is one of the things psychiatrists dread the most because it is usually so treatment resistant.

So don't let one run your country.

(or your household. Growing up with someone who has BPD was 'very educational.') Hard not to stigmatize people with those problems, but god damn. The wreckage is undeniable/proof in the pudding. To say nothing of nuclear launch codes/control over sweeping fiscal/immigration/educational/healthcare policies.

Remember, a narcissist is never wrong. Ever.
Everything is justified, explained to their advantage.
A narcissist always knows best, undeterred by details like facts.

Remember, a politician is never wrong. Ever.

A politician always knows best, undeterred by details like facts.

Remember Sammy Jankis...or the man who wanted to remember Sammy Jankis...for purpose.

The fundamental flaw of politics: it attracts mostly self-serving assholes.

I always say that we've all got someone about whom we think "he or she would make a great __________." It's probably because they're a great person, no? And would they ever remotely consider running for office? Never.

Teehee, bleh.

Yeah, Trump is a nut.

Also, the Paul Ryan non-endorsement is just Trump being snarky for no reason. Ryan is in no danger of losing his primary.

I'm selectively prone to overthinking and tumbling down rabbit holes in my own head. Maybe you've noticed in rambles :hobbes:
As a kid I was worried about a lot of stuff. Unfortunate things out of my control. Had many vivid nightmares.

As an adult I'm not worried about Trump or anyone like him *dooming us all* or any number of potential nightmare scenarios.
IDK...it may be foil-hatty but if this aint a HRC presidency, I'd sooner predict Trump wins and there's a tragedy before he's sworn in.
Something like a heart attack or plane crash. Maybe a mysterious OD. Whatever is feasible, convenient. It would be a conspiracy for the ages.
No major changes, civilization perseveres. Business as usual.

We're still moving to Canada together though, right?

Also, I've heard a lot of people say that if Trump gets elected, you'll start seeing a lot of people aping his hairstyle (and not just men):

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, possibly.
Hell, they could even say it was "for the betterment of humanity" or something a few decades down the road and get a lot of people to agree using some argument like, "we couldn't allow for another Hitler" or whatever.

Of course, everyone (or everyone that leaned right, at least) thought Obama would be assassinated during his first term. :idk:

There was a sizable contingent in Buffalo, NY that thought a Sabres logo looked like Trump's hair.

One can't play hockey for shit and the other can't be president for shit.

Tough choice.
