MIL watches our son during the day to help us out.. we are grateful for that.
In-laws heard my parents were coming into town to stay for a week and be around for our son's first birthday. In-laws decide that's a good time to go to Mexico for a week since someone else will be able to watch the kid; that's cool and all since my parents live a few states away and want to spend time with him... But they have three dogs, and they didn't want to kennel them for the week because kennel + time out of kennel to play = $$$. Wife felt like she had to say yes to watching the dogs because of the free child care, which is fine I guess... But neither my wife nor my in-laws thought to ask my parents if they were cool with it since, by extension, my parents would essentially be watching the dogs. I wasn't consulted on the situation until after my wife had agreed to watch them. The in-laws' dogs are super clingy/needy since the MIL hasn't worked in like 30 years and they don't really understand the concept of "hold it" because she's a smoker so they get to go outside a ton... they are also vindictive assholes.
Fast forward to this morning. Son wakes up right after I leave for work. Wife goes into his room to try and get him back down; leaves the door to our bedroom open so the dogs don't just scratch and whine and bark at it.... She falls asleep on the couch with our son because I guess she didn't sleep well. The dogs had free reign for an hour and a half until my mom woke up. She stepped in shit. They had shit and pissed everywhere.
My parents are overly dramatic and generally a drain that furthers my already shitty demeanor, but this was the exact situation I knew would pop up. I'm almost taking a small amount of joy in knowing my wife feels terrible about the whole thing. My parents didn't sign up for watching extra dogs (we have two) and have been complaining all week. I just don't know how to really rectify the situation for the future. My dad says they are just going to show up on a day's notice from now on. I don't really like the idea of dropping a ton of money to kennel an issue, but I also don't think my parents should have to pay inflated last second flight prices, or drive and pay for gas and hotel rooms, or pay for hotel rooms while they are here, or whatever combination.. I don't know. We are about to start paying for daycare 2 days a week since the MIL just can't handle it anymore (her health fluctuates; really that whole family is just plague prone, wife included), so maybe it'll be easier to say "your fucking problem" in the future...
Whole situation has just been mildly stressful. Minor inconvenience, but that's the type of shit my brain likes to blow up.

I feel like I’ve turned a corner with depression. For the first time, I’m confident that it’s a rational emotional response to environmental conditioning and not a defect of my character or brain. To fight against it is to fight against things almost entirely out of my control, which is why it’s been chronic and unchanging. I told my therapist about this and canceled treatment; he said he understood. A lot of my anger came from wanting a healthy life and being frustrated at not being able to create it for myself. I don’t feel an expectation for that anymore, and I’m no longer going to be disappointed that it’s not possible. Maybe this sounds defeatist, but I feel liberated. I'm going to lean into living my shitty, garbage life until I'm dead.

For what it's worth, I think you're alright for a garbage person.
