Kill the justice system.
Anarchy in the streets would probably be better than this shit.

I'll be the asshole, then...

Every sexual predator's story is that they were really just doing nothing and then the justice system came down on them like a ton of bricks. I knew someone who I was already in the process of cutting out of my life, when they went to jail for over a year. He and his wife told everyone that he was saying dirty things to his wife in a store and some mom overheard it and called the cops and they accused him of molesting her daughter. Because he was on the Megan's Law database after that, I was able to look up what he was convicted of (which was a plea deal, meaning the original charge was worse) and it turns out the charge he was convicted of can only be applied if you're a repeat offender of a similar sex crime with a minor. So I did some digging and found out he took a plea deal for house arrest, after being charged with molesting a little girl in the trailer park he grew up in. When my wife brought this up to his, she said she knew all about it and it was a big conspiracy by the girl's family and they had connection in the courts and police to railroad him. He got tossed back in jail for violating work release and told everyone it was because he had an empty plastic coke bottle with him that he was going to throw away inside the county jail office and they accused him of smuggling contraband. I found out from a friend who worked with him that he was not supposed to use the internet or phone while on work release and he was. That he wasn't supposed to leave the premises and his wife would come pick him up and he'd leave for several hours. That he wasn't supposed to talk to kids or teenagers and he did constantly. He ended up in state prison in adseg for breaking parole/probation later and I have zero clue what bullshit lie he told everyone then, but I had a friend who worked with him at the job he was at then too and they said he got fired for watching pornography and masturbating at work, as well as some inappropriate interactions with customers and coworkers.

Point being...sexual predators LIE to everyone in their lives. Most of them always have some excuse or conspiracy behind why they got arrested and the people who love and trust them react with "Oh fuck, that's crazy! How could they throw you in jail just for that??"...but if someone is a predator and they get caught, it's almost guarantee there is more to the story (or more victims) that didn't come to light.

If someone had a gross miscarriage of justice, they should appeal and get some pro bono legal help and fight it like crazy. The justice system is fucked up in a lot of ways. If you want me to rend my garments and gnash my teeth that an adult man got in trouble for TRYING to fuck a kid, but didn't succeed...pass.

Ok, I'm ready to be told all about how I don't know the real situation and how good a guy this person is and how I'm a dumb judgmental PC SJW piece of shit. Blast away, I'm cool with it, but I meant what I typed.

These are solid points. I tend to agree, that's not to say there hasn't been crazy shit like people having to register as sex offenders for being caught peeing outside etc, but I'd agree that they behave like any other addict and have theories and excuses that allow them to never own their shit and take responsibility.

I don't know this dude personally or any other, but Corey Y has excellent points.

I agree with Corey and BOS, I don't think you are hearing the true story, raj. Criminals tell a lot of irrational stories to try to hide their guilt, and if you believe them, then prisons are filled with innocent people. I'm not saying the justice system doesn't have flaws, and I don't know for a fact that the story isn't true, but it really doesn't pass the smell test.

Monday - Man I'm stuffed up. Stupid allergies
Tuesday - Okay, it hasn't gone away and now my throat hurts. Darkest before dawn, right?
Wednesday - Splitting headache, fever, gravel throat, and can't say more than 4 words without coughing up a lung.

He certainly was not innocent. He did wrong. And deserved punishment and rehabilitation. But, I absolutely do not agree with a 20 year sentence in this particular situation.

His record was 100% clean up to that point.

And he admitted guilt when he took the probation...

I don't know the nature of those texts...no idea what was said. It obviously wasn't good...

And it's ridiculous to assume more victims, etc as there's no proof of that...

Theyll certainly be appealing...the family is already preparing.

I'm not picking on you, just to be clear. You're just the conduit for this story about the consequences of a sex crime, that have no mention or perspective of any victim, but cast the perpetrator as the victim and their friends and relatives as victims not of his actions, but of the people who are punishing him for them.

Human beings are always worthy of fair treatment and the possibility for growth and redemption. I just feel compelled to introduce the possibility of perspective on the situation that doesn't generate from and center around the sexual predator.

I also think we can believe that 1) the criminal justice system is awful and bad and should be leveled to the ground and rebuilt as a totally different institution (minus the racism and horrible violence that it has inflicted.) and 2) that the friend was probably lying about some shit.

But a 20 year sentence with no therapy or rehabilitation isn't actually helping anyone. It doesn't help his victim. It doesn't help him or his family. Doesn't help the community.

I think that this weird fetish for punishment that Americans have is fucked up and bad and we all need to take a long hard look at why our system is this way.

It helps the shareholders of for-profit prisons.
