This album is now my soundtrack to today/moving. I've been on a huge PtH kick lately. Also, Genghis Tron. Skip and I were talking about it last week, but does anyone remember them? If so, are there other bands that did the electronica/metal thing that well, or are they the stand out?

Ghengis Tron is fucking quality  Sadly have not found anyone else who really could really do it like them

Ahh damn, I think it was the combination of not using a live drummer and an insane level of talent that made them work. I can't really imagine someone else filling that niche.

Yeah I still occasionally listen to Board up the House, it's one of my favorites.

Slight change of subject and I'm sure this was addressed but what are everyone's thoughts on this?

Maybe it'll grow on me but I'm not a fan of those vocals at all or how they are mixed.

But Djent is a sub-genre of Progressive Metal. It isn't really a genre at all. It's more of a sub-culture than anything, focusing on specific guitar-related details. Dillinger Escape Plan sound nothing like Periphery or Animals As Leaders, but there are definite crossovers, and the origins are similar. The endless over-edited videos of people playing 7 and 8-string guitars with super tight Axe-FX patches is ridiculous. They all sound the same to me. But so do many Black Metal bands. That's because I don't know the genre well and cannot distinguish between the differences. Maybe those who play and live the lifestyle, so to speak, of 'Djent' and modern versions of technical metal can distinguish between Periphery and Animals As Leaders and Protest The Hero. I think those three bands sound very distinct, yet they're all considered 'Djent'.

Funnily enough, I don't consider Meshuggah to be Djent. They're Progressive Metal through and through. They are that because they 'progressed' the genre of metal to new heights.

I missed this somehow....

I concur for the most part... There's alot of black metal bands that use very different guitar tones IMO. Your spot on about DEP though. And I think if I delved more into the Djent music I could pick different bands apart, but it would mainly be due to the playing style as like you said they follow a formula for their tone Maxon OD808 > (variety of different FMV tone stack high gain heads all with the gain low) > post preamp EQ > SS power amp.

Meshuggah aren't Djent because they were what they are before that was invented, it was invented to describe the sound they created and the genre that follows it.

Great way of putting it. Totally agree.

Agreed on the vocals. The first thing that came to mind for me was the Metallica / Lulu debacle.

This thread is now about Djent and the subsequent terrible taste in amps. Bow to your new master.

There was a short-lived group experimental acid rock group here in Seattle years ago called Death Camp for Cutie.

Sounds like a good time, congrats on the show. I know that I've probably tried this before, but I'm going to start calling you and the other guitarist in Khemmis Dr. Riffenstein and Dr. Doom, what with the phds and all...:animal:

I love some board up the house. I was really excited to see what they'd do next but then they called it quits/long hiatus. Too bad. It was a really good album.

Last night at practice we tried out a new bassist since ours moved 3 hours away to start a new job. Dude has a 5 string and knows all kinds of theory. Closest I can compare him to is Joe Lester from Intronaut if he had frets. This is gonna be interesting. Also, I found out last night that my Quantum Mystic can dial in the exact tone that I have my Rat set for high gain if I want.

Hrrrm... I can't stop imagining that the singer is Count Dracula from Sesame Street. Is this just a mock up? or is it supposed to be a real take?

I had the same thought. If I'm going to listen to Dracula sing doom it's gonna be Abysmal Grief.
