I don't know what to say Rusty. I have no clue what your life experiences are. You claim that it is foolish beyond belief to ascribe all (or even most?) personal failures to racism, sexism, and homophobia. I don't know if you've personally experienced these things, so how do we talk about this. And sorry, white people in America have not experienced racism. That is foolishness.

I try to avoid making assumptions about other ppl's experiences other than we probably have more in common than not. The human condition is universal, variation on themes. We were all children, once. There's great potential to be wonderful and/or horrible in us all, and most individuals are generally "ok". We're all flawed. Some are prettier than others, some are pettier than others. Some are highly vindictive. Everyone has their insecurities & weakness, emotionally driven character issues. You just don't get to see most of it, great effort is made to keep it hidden in plain sight.

I have, personally experienced racism, sexism and homophobia. Ageism. General, direct bigotry & also by proxy. Most everyone has. One doesn't have to be darkskinned, female or homosexual to experience such superficial cruelty. These attitudes do exist in every living room and on every street corner. They do not always manifest themselves as the intent behind mistreatment. If you think white people haven't experienced worldwide racism then you categorically don't know what you're talking about.

In the 90s my upstairs neighbor had a number tattooed on his arm. It was a choice made for him. He had light skin.
Granted, it happened in western Europe...but do you think european jews aren't white people? Or there's no reason for fluorescent-white Poles to be offended by swastika vandalism?

You claim that one's race or gender or sexuality should not matter as much as skill in opportunities. Many studies have proven this false, have proven race is a huge contributing factor in hiring and job opportunities. I don't know. Maybe you're gay and constantly facing homophobic attacks, and if that's the case i'm sorry and i do not mean to be presumptuous. But until you do live it, i don't really expect you to understand it. It's cool though. Victimhood is boring and i'd rather focus on other things. Hilary is going to be crushed under the weight of those balloons. Donald Trump will lead America and we'll all laugh when we become a million consciousnesses without bodies in an ocean of sentience, all intermingling.

Wait. You're perceiving I said 2 differnt things here. Bigotry should not happen or does not happen? Because yes, it should not happen. Yes, it happens. If you're going to say things like "many studies have proven this false" the least you could do is cite them. But it's a moot point in this case.

What you're attempting to do is differentiate experiences and behavior as being unique and not variations on universal themes. As if they are exclusive to a particular type of individual. Perhaps because you don't attribute them to another type of individual, who you've perceived to be at odds with your association and assertions. This is done as a way to reduce individuals to traits you've ascribed, where prejudices can be used to invalidate disagreeable individuals made to represent ideas and attitudes. Scapegoats.

It is foolish to ascribe all misfortune and mistreatment as product of bigotry. It is foolish to assume intangible things about someone because of their superficial characteristics. It is foolish to distract oneself with the symptoms of an affliction while ignoring the source of the problem. You shouldn't be presumptuous about me, either. My sexual orientation is immaterial to this discussion.

One doesn't need to constantly experience [thing] to have experienced [thing]. Or identify with someone who has. Some people are highly empathetic throughout childhood and [maybe] able to retain it into adulthood. There seems to be a current lack of public empathy for white people when victimized. As if white people are the bogeyman du jour, undeserving of basic human decency. This suggests bigotry and condemnation of a specific type of individual based on how their looks have been sized-up instead of an idea or attitude.
It would be wise to remember white people haven't been around long enough, to be credited as convenient scapegoats for ideas and attitudes which have existed since the dominant civilizations were darkskinned asian, mediterranean, middle eastern, north african.

It's fun to pretend like there's racial harmony among ethnicities.
All eastern asians and middle-easterners, eastern europeans, western europeans, northafricans and so on are not equal. Among themselves & each other. All central & south american people view each other as lesser or better. Ethnic tensions exist everywhere there are multiple ethnicities. And people. The more people, the greater the tension.

In reality pulling jobs into a local economy without some type of grant to dramatically cut overhead or a product that is so heavy and bulky that importing it would be stupid is one of the hardest things I deal with.
