Diabolically bad guitars. I joke about wearing zoot suits regularly and Gibson are actually fuckin' doing it.
If these sell anything more than "dismally" I'll be astounded.

I thought the zoot suits were from like 10 years ago or something. I think they're pretty. They don't look like actual zoot suits, you guys...

Oh shit those gibson product pages have comment sections and people are just roasting the Firebird X:
" 'member when Homer Simpson designed a car that ruined his half-brother's company? That."
"i feel this guitar would burst into flames with one drop of sweat onto that memory chip"
"I think the misconception is that musicians want prepackaged sound handed to them. But we have a personal need to create. It's why we make music in the first place. That includes compiling effects and gear that resonate with us individually. I don't think this whole thing will take off because it feels like all the work and the magic has been taken out of it.
Also it looks like a bowling ball."
"Hahahahaha.... are you for real? It really does look like a bowling ball...."

gnomethrone wrote:Fender guitars creation process:
1. Write down design features of all pre-80's models on slips of paper
2. Place slips in a hat.
3. Pull them out one by one till you have this year's model

"What kind of bridge, sir?"
"Eh whatever we got laying around the warehouse."
1-3 is basically every guitar builder's design process, especially boutique. Just move the era-slider to their personal taste. haha
I don't mind it most of the time, especially if it's riffing off vintage japanese stuff

Can we get a run down of all the transparent overdrives to choose from? I'm on the market for about 5 or 6 of them.

At what point do transparent overdrives lose their transparency when stacked? Or would they be transparent all the way down?

Guys, I think after merely looking at those new Gibson pics, I am now a member of Smash Mouth.

those Zoot Suits are awesome!
The Rainbow might be a bit much and I don't care for the headstock
or the weird fucking placement of the selector switch (one might get into that?)
but come on!
black & orange
Blue & red
those seethrough humbuckers
I mean if it were some boutique guy getting those layers from say old skateboards
there would be ooohs & aaahs
but since it's Gibson trying just a little bit something different
there's panties & bunches
maybe Gibson was ahaed of the times those 10 years ago,
but to get that same reaction now?
how forward thinking ILF, chapeau!

I have been watching an inordinate amount of 'To Catch A Predator' lately so this
could be just me. But 'Cherry Poppin' Daddies' totally has me triggered.

Maybe they are? By devaluing Gibson, they're setting the table for a buyout. The corporate world doesn't do layoffs at the top. They do golden parachutes. Also, by ruining their current models, they're potentially driving the prices up of earlier Gibsons. I imagine several of their execs have closets full of unplayed instruments that they could liquidate for a new vacation house.

Also, how many Gibson loyalists want a pink, semi-hollow PRS knock-off? It really looks like they don't know their customers at all.

My thoughts exactly. I liked them then and I like them now, though I am not about to drop 2k on one.
Also, that Firebird X...
Dang it Gibson, last time you did a 'futuristic' Firebird like that it sold like shit and everyone hated it, why will you not learn??

I think if they copied Prisma guitars better and went with the really thin stripe guitars they make, it could look amazing - see the guitar that Pete Jonas is playing below - I'd love one of those. Sadly they cost five times more than my car is worth

The fat areas of crude colour just look messy to me.... I think lots of really thin colourful lines could be lovely though.
Here's another one by Prisma I like:
