We need to start putting together flyers and getting the word out there.
Also, we need to decide on a cover. What makes the trip worthwhile for the bands involved? The venue would like a cut of $50 of the door money. Not sure how many people to expect, but the Borg Ward and the Milwaukee bands come with their own crowds of some size. Thoughts?
How far are most people coming from? I have booked, been booked on, and have been to many shows at the Borg Ward. In my opinion, I don't think the local (i.e. Milwaukee area bands) should be taking a cut of the door. I think the door money should just be reserved for out-of-town/touring bands that have to drive some distance. Bands can sell merch to make up whatever money they may miss out on from the door, as in my experience Milwaukee is full of people who will buy merch if your band doesn't suck and it's not at a ridiculous price point (I'm sorry, but any more than $10 for your average t-shirt is HIGHWAY ROBBERY).
I would be comfortable in expecting at least 30 folks at this shindig if it's promoted well enough, maybe even more depending what else is going on that weekend and such. The largest crowd I've ever seen at the Borg Ward was 100 people for the Rotten Sound (Finnish grind metal) show a few years back. I think even Torche only drew like 60-70 people when they played there last year (Or was it late 2009? Memory escapes me...). The annual Milwaukee Noise Fest also draws between about 40 and 60 kids. I have an in at the Onion, so if you want I can try to get them to do a feature on the show, which should help bring in some extra heads. I've already started doing some promotion on the Northless page, so I fully expect at least some of our crowd to be there.
To be honest, I wouldn't charge more than $8 for this. $5 is too little. $10 is kinda steep for bands that don't have guarantees or use booking agents and stuff (and the Borg rarely deals with those types anyway), especially if we're talking about a fair chunk of local/local-ish bands.
Hope this helps! I think this show is going to rule!
