All the negative aspects of tubes are pretty over hyped. I think I prefer solid state for bass (never owned a tube bass amp, though), but I used to have a Crate Blue Doodoo, and boy did I beat that thing up a bit in the short while I had it. Tubes aren't fragile like light bulbs, and that's the only fragile thing in the amp.
They are big and heavy, to which I reply: Pussy.
The problem is once you get past like 300 watts, they start to get impractical. But so is getting past 300 watts, so it's a moot point.

Once you need to get past 300-400 watts you just get another amp.

Yep. I use a Sansamp RPM. About the best I can do. I actually get lots of compliments for what it's worth.
