The dude's in Berlin.
I actually noticed you were german from the Taranaki. How does that play? I was thinking about getting one, but it was just one of those GAS-things that never really hold up for that long. I discovered about those guys when they were distributors for St.Blues. Those are really awesome guitars. But again, other stuff tends to get in the way of purchasing one. I loved the 61 south I've played in a store. I've just discovered they discontinued all of their budget line and focus on the more expensive models - that's sad.

Yes, the St. Blues look nice but I never played one.
There is one red Taranaki on German ebay right now, you might want to have a look at it. It plays alright. Mine covers all my Strat-y needs since it's an alder body and maple neck along with the Barfuss "Texas Tornado" pickups I installed and the Digsby for vibrato. The workmanship is fine, the body comfortable. Two minor flaws for me: it is rather on the heavy side and if you like really big fat necks, like I do, it might take some time to get used to that neck. Many people find it a standard neck, I find it rather thin. But you get used to it.

Hum. I am actually really into thin necks. Right now I am playing the living daylights out of a recently acquired (wooden) Ampeg. That neck is like a blade or something. I love it. Looking to get a Squier Duosonic soon, maybe this month if I manage to sell some more stuff. That's a thin neck too. Those two would probably cover most of my needs and there are some other for when the fancy strikes me. After that I will try to talk the Taranaki dude into importing some of those Eastwood Tenor guitars. That'd be awesome.
Did you ever play a Deimel? Been meaning to go the last time I was in Berlin, but I didn't realise he is located that far west. (Schöneberg I think)

Ha! All guitars you see in my picture have been overdone/maintained/adjusted/pimped by Frank Deimel, his is the store I go to for all service needs, a great guy, and certainly less of an ass than so many other guitar shop owners in Berlin. I bought the Danelectro from him. I always admire the Jazzmaster types hanging in his shop - but never played one for longer or even amplified.

THIS! Also, cheers. It's a very nice relicing job tbh. Looks very authentic, even on the bridge, tuners etc etc. Only things that arent relic'd are the knobs and pickups. I'm looking for images of relic'd knobs at the moment, but no good examples, or ones that even look good. I'm tempted to get some brushed aluminium ones and relic them myself. that would look tasty! As for the pups, i'm still getting used to p90s, but i might order some BKP pig 90's and get them to relic them.
It's actually a spear. I paid ~€300 for it, brand new, from their uk website. Ordered it on a sunday, arrived on the friday. Seriously good service imo.
Also, I brought it into my local guitar shop (
http://www.xmusic.ie) to see what they made of it, and to see if it needed anything like a setup etc. I got a peavey before and it need a setup when it arrived. They said it was excelent as far as LP copies go. They said the finish was good too. They gave it the once over and said it looks spot on, but to watch out around the 12-14th fret for a bit of rattle. They suggested a setup around October, but at the very reasonable price of ~€35, I'd say i'll take them up on that.

thanks... i wondered about posting it here as most are folks here aren't strat guys. I've always been one, no guitar is as comfortable or as easy to play for me. I took a leap of faith on this and for the 2 years I waited for it to be finished the hype grew and grew in my mind to the point where I figured I was bound to be disappointed. I've owned some very very nice guitars in my time. Anyway I've had it over a year now so the honeymoon period is long past and the truth is the same from when I first picked it up on the day of delivery.... it blew away any expectations I had in my mind. I had a G&L at the time that was the best guitar I had ever laid my hands on, and I wondered if the Callaham would beat it. The G&L is long gone now and I've not missed it for a moment. The Callaham is like hanging out with an old friend, everything is just so comfortable and easy. I can play stuff on it I always tried to pull off but couldn't (and still can't) manage on any other guitar. I can play it with my eyes closed. Everything about is is so perfect it's a little bit creepy. I haven't even considered buying another guitar since. I'm done. This is the one.
