Anyone know if this is just a bouzouki with extra quartertone frets or some other thing?
Trinity College bouzouki, black top; see link below. TC is one of the Saga family of brands, who also produce Blueridge guitars and Kentucky mandolins among other instruments. i can find no evidence they ever produced a bouzouki with quarter-tone frets, so either it was customized (more likely) or they ran one up especially for him. the frets on Lindley's instrument look fatter than the ones on stock TC bouzoukis, so i suspect he had it refretted with wider frets and the quarter-tones added. compare to the Saga website.
Need 2 buy & saw the cheeks off LaBay 2x4 stylieee
or mebbe like a Shelly Starwood if the linseed oil chokes me throat
Not a hackjob.....YVETTE! Butte honestly......? I am probably never buying STOOLPIDGE GRIGSBY

Shooting a longshot here. Is anyone here the caretaker of a buzuq? Wondering what material the frets are. Trying to figure out if its a stupid idea to put gut frets on a steel strung guitar. I may have a stupid idea...

No buzuq and only second hand knowledge but I have a friend who plays the baglama saz and I learned from him people usually use nylon fishing line. Wrap it around the neck a few times, use the knot described here: https://www.cigarboxguitars.com/post/ho ... ing-string
I suppose that's what people use for buzuq as well.

...is the stupid idea to make a microtonal guitar by adding tied frets in between the normal ones? I've tried it a few years ago after getting into King Gizzard. It works but it helps if you have a guitar with very low/thin frets and very thick fishing line to get the frets remotely level and the notes played on the tied frets have a noticable shorter sustain and less overtones.

Damn, I thought there was finally someone with ideas as stupid as mine…
If you don't want to go through the hassle of filling the fret slots and sanding the fretboard you could look for those cheap Chinese necks on ebay. You can usually order them to different specs if you just write a quick message. I bought a Bass VI without the frets installed and without fret markers from seller "siemonics" last year. Neck is decent quality, communication was easy and shipping was fast.

bear in mind that you might have to sand the fingerboard anyway…i had to sand the entire baritone neck because the board was rough and the finish on the maple parts was thin, bumpy, and had visible runs. still better than paying 5 times as much for a Musicraft neck, though.
