Hey now! The ModFactor can choose between AC and DC coupled ring mod; the LFO can do sine, triangle, peak, ramp, square, random, sample / hold, envelope; has a LPF; and can do further modulation on the frequency and depth.
That being said, I'm in the market for a Ring Thing now to expand my ring mod capabilities. Does it do tremolo in the Ring Mod setting or do you have to use one of the side bands in order to accomplish that?

I honestly haven't messed with the ring thing much. I do know that the carrier doesn't get as slow as the moog, frostwave and Fairfield, so that kind of AM sound is probably out. The straight ringmod on it is pretty weak sounding and needs to be driven hard to get good harmonic content. I'm going to mess with it more, but so far I'd rather have a gonkulator or any of copilot's ringmod and save $100. I kinda look at it as more of a show case for their sideband stuff with the ring mod thrown in (as the sidebands are based on the ring mod algorithm).
AC/DC...I wonder why they did that? Weird. Does the eventide have an insert?
Honestly, I still think ring modulation with sine is the most functional/versatile...the others are cool every now and again, but if I am going to start getting exotic, I go passive and all the way. They just kind of sound dirtier and less expressive or dynamic when done with IC/CMOS or in digital with complex carrriers. Same goes with all the carrier modulation ... a little warble is cool, but if it goes of the top, the signal is too complex to really be all that useful except in just fun, goofing off, or randomized kinda sounds. I tend to not use it except for a dash on my moog unless I just want to make goofy sounds. Exception being in the passive environment.
I just really don't care for digital emulations of ring mod. The balancing and quirks of analog is what makes it so great for me....
Just my thoughts of course...and there are always exceptions.

They refer to the AC and DC as Ring and String, respectively. The DC setting has a richer sound to it while the AC is all bell sounds. No insert on it.
I should add that my ring mod usage tends to be with the ring mod at the beginning of the chain, tuned to the key I'm playing in, and mixed in low enough to make it the dry signal sound like it has some crazy harmonics somewhere in the background. Then I run it into dirt of some sort. I usually stick with the basic sine, triangle, square, or ramp settings (occasionally peak).
You definitely make me want to check out a lot more ring mods, as the passive ones sound very cool. I think I will end up with the Ring Thing anyways since I can return it if I hate it, but it's the only one with different waveforms and a filter. It's also hard to tell how much I'd like some of these other ones since your average ring mod demo is basically "look at all these crazy sounds".

I really like Ring Modulation, but I don't think I ever gave it the proper amount of time.
I built that Montreal Assembly Ring Mod that Lord G has now that was freaking awesome and SO noisy and the subs it would create were so intense.
I've had the Moogerfooger Ring Mod a few times, I enjoyed how it had the carrier and LFO outputs

Awesome, skully.
I still've gotta send you that Bottom Booster to get a Green Ringer installed.

Yea, thanks for that mtl.asm CA Ring Mod, skullservant! Freaking noise destruction device there haha. The engraving is awesome (just like all of 'em you do).

This is going to sound crazy, but I want a ring mod. Not a super squealy kind, but after hearing a demo of a pedal I can't recall because my brain is in a state of nutritional meltdown, I'm horny for one.
What is the wackiest, but most usable one? You know what. Fuck usable. What's the craziest?

Not the Randy's Revenge. That's probably one of the most usable.
Which ones have you already owned?

Hmmmmmm let's see.
Randy's Revenge v.1 and v.2, Moogerfooger MF 102, Hax, Rainbow Machine (is this even a ring mod? LOL), Way Huge Ringworm, Mobius (pretty sure that had ring mod?). Fuck I know I've tried more. I can't remember.

No problem dude, that pedal was a beast. Took me long enough to put together

Anyone need a control pedal for a Maestro Ring Modulator in Very Good condition?

Are you ever going to respond to me Chank? Or is my quest hopeless?
