i'm a shit cook. so i just go with the what's out there. green tea flavored creamy things pop up all over Japan, out here it's mostly in ice cream or mochi stuff. or sometimes more of a bitter complement to sumphin' all sweet like. guess they do that a fair amount in Japan too.

i wouldn't say it was COMMON in the Bay Area, but it's not rare, either. i'm pretty sure one of the big boutique ice-cream makers makes it, probably Haagen Dasz? i know i've bought it at Safeway.

shits is everrrrrrrywhere now son. specially with all the egg puff/exploded waffle places in SF. Chinese and Japanese snacks seem ABUNDANT lately.

hell, i could live in the bakeries in China Town in Oakland. there's one place that does a mochi with custard filling..... kinda like the Dim Sum custard buns...... but with MOCHI.

i'm way behind now...i moved to Felton ten years ago and have missed all the developments in Asian food that have taken place in the cities since then. i haven't even had proper dim sum in a decade.

that.... bummed me out a bit there guy. isn't Felton near Santa Cruise kinda? there's gotsta be some good stuff around there ne?

i'm spoiled living in the Yarea. you can't throw a mochi covered dead kitten without having it bounce off 3 or 4 delicious eateries.

I hear you I moved from down there... too long fucking ago... and even though Seattle had some good spots it isn't the same and Oly sucks in all ways food.

there's some good Asian food in SC, yes, but nothing like what you're going to see in SF or Oakland...there just isn't the Asian population to support a much wider variety of fare than your more typical Chinese cuisine options.

yah. i LOVE living out here. there's a place nearish my house that i knew had decent sushi but has some BANGING ass udon.

My wife worked at a juice bar that sold a Matcha Green Tea smoothie that was awesome,....Fresh Squeezed orange juice blended with vanilla ice cream and matcha green tea powder. Unfortunately that place got bought up by a scum bum who would not wash his hands before going back to work (not to mention being a general hard head and difficult to work for). I also heard that he moved to using OJ concentrate instead of Fresh Squeezed,....Fresh Squeezed OJ being far superior IMO. The Wife moved on and I haven't been back there since.

Lot's of Pho and Thai restaurants round Spokane but I'm currently stoked on a Mexican "Fast Food" Joint called Atilano's. I'm not sure of the authenticity of any of it,...(the Pho and Thai or the Mexican Joint),...but Atilano's has a burrito that is Carne Asada, Bacon, Fried Potatoes (yes they're fries) Cheese and Sour Cream,....NO FUCKING BEANS,....NO FUCKING RICE,....GAWDAMN RIGHT. And that burrito is just as big as the non authentic burrito joints around here that give you like an ounce of meat and fill the rest with a pound of FUCKING BEANS and FUCKING RICE.

If I'm gonna have FUCKING BEANS and FUCKING RICE I'll just save 5 bucks and make that shit at home.

I really need to go to one of the Pho restaurants.

i kinda hate beans. i always get a big ass burrito with loads of rice, cheese, guac, sour cream, tomatoes and salsa. there's like 9 places that are awesome pretty close to my hood.

how the hell do different messican places taste so different when they use the exact same 4 things in EVERY DAMN DISH.

i lurv mexican food.

All the sit down Mexican joints round here taste the same to me.

There is a New Mex place out in the Valley that's really good and different.

I can't remember what it's called but it's essentially Eggs, Potatoes, Chorizo, Cheese Tortillas and some other things that aren't coming to mind. So tasty.

I don't mind beans and rice,...but it's not my favorite thing in the world. It's more like filler or a side dish to me. I do like rice based desserts like Rice Pudding,...and Black Sticky Rice um Pudding,...and,...well Rice Pudding is about all the rice based dessert I can think of.

Oh and Risotto,....eat the shit out of some Risotto.

Black Beans, White Beans, Red Beans, Fava and Lima Beans are just too fucking gritty in texture for me to like,...just ugh,....I like me some Lentils though. Oh and hummus,...that's kind of a bean-ish type of dish. Oh and I like Black Eyed Pea and Ham soup.

Pho is awesome. Soup for days, son.
