IKR? when I opened it I had to spend an hour finding out where everything was because some one decided to
BRAID the wires from the tone pot.
What year is it then? mine looks the same as a NYC inside..
I have no idea, but I opened it up and was like "what the fuck is this shit!?"

fuck, everything passes current but the led wont activate, there is a ghastly hum (goes away when I touch the pcb but not the bass) and no bass signal in any switch position. ILF help me!

you've got your positive and negative reversed somewhere?

how, all I did was change a resistor and fix the battery snap (and I attached the new one to the old ones leads)
EDIT: I'll change the battery snap around as it appears that current is flowing through the ground wire

i did that when i installed Dynasonics in my Gretsch Pro Jet. it took me months to figure out that the white wire on the pickups wasn't the same polarity as the white wire on the switch.

my ghetto radio shack battery snaps have black positive, what up with that?

Put together a second SHO clone board on perfboard today and it also didn't work. (The previous one, smaller, didn't work either.) Highly frustrated by that. May switch to building LPB-clones in these 1590a (tiny finger cases) instead of SHOs because I'm so pissed.

We're sorry..we really are.

The circuit is really the same as an LPB... just some different values and a protection diode on the MOSFET. Are you sure you're not putting the MOSFET in backwards? It's exactly the same pinout as a BJT, but backwards (so you flip it). Also, be careful when handling the MOSFETs, because they're really sensitive. I work barefoot and keep my hands moisturized to avoid static buildup, and once they're in the circuit and working, the protection diode should, for the most part, protect it. They can get slightly damaged before building.

I kept them in the bag until it was time to test. I used a perfboard loayout (
http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main. ... ewsIndex=1) and assume the MOSFET is positioned correctly in their perfboard layout.
I think I'm just going to buy two Madbeans SHO PCBs and build on that, but still socket the MOSFET and diodes. I've got plenty of the other components at the Makerspace to last me forever..

Still, was hoping that perfboard layout would work; as I just wanted to build these and move on.

I hate when people start a thread about a pedal and talk about how they love it but make you the reader have to do your own footwork to find demos.

What really frustrates me is that I can build an 8-bit CPU from NAND gates (well, I did in college) parts count about 100x this circuit. I can build a Zigbee (think bluetooth) wireless sensor "mote" platform with about 20x the amount of components and soldering and much more complexity (digital logic, various voltage levels, lots of sockets for things to snap together or use ribbon cables) and yet I can't build a SHO clone that makes sound.

I are fail.

i learned a trick to start conversation in bars/strip clubs/wherever. i've seen it in action, and my mind was blown. all you gotta do is ask the magical words "HOW OLD DO I LOOK?!". bam. i guarantee you'll have yourself a conversation with a complete stranger.
