Best way in the world to test headroom on amps and speakers... particularly when bassguitarists say “there is tons of headroom with my passive jazz with rounds.....”

Dandolin wrote:Wasn't thrilled with the ELF. I was fine for rehearsals, but at shows it felt anemic in the bass frequencies and weirdly compressed. Like it was invalidating the Fletcher-Munson curve.
In one odd gig where I was alternating an old Ibanez Musician bass with passive-but-high output humbuckers and an EUB with a piezo through a Baggs D.I. it was infuriatingly hard to set levels between the two inputs even though at the previous gig with the same basses using a war-torn Eden Nemesis everything had been easy. I subsequently moved to a Peavey Minimax which was fine until gigs dried up

Also, swapping cabs (with identical ohm ratings) really didn't seem to make a difference. Music-wise it was a mixed bag, but as the presence of the EUB indicates, overall pretty damn tame, although nobody gets through a gig with me on bass without hearing a shit-tonne of fuzzzz.
The problem with the ELF, imo, isn't really the front-end though, so it took pedals pretty well. It make a damn nice home/practice amp, lol.
Ah this is very good knowledge. Still maybe good for home and rehearsals for the price/size though.

Recently impressed with a GK MB200 into an SWR Goliath Sr. Punches hard. With clarity. Easy to dial, great with pedals. Yet... haven't tried on a gig (though gig volume is usually less than rehersal) and haven't put a B string through it. I expect it to smile.

His posting style was like he posted using talk to text to post, got into a conversation with someone else while it was still running, and then never corrected anything.

lollolololollolol. that is BEAUTIFUL. again. HEART WARMING.
think the cutest thing i've ever heard in that vein was meeting Jeremy at the only Fuzzzz Luvinnnnns meet up i made it to. he said something like, "well. you sound exactly like how you sound online. but. you know. an octave or two lower. or like fucking Grover. either/or.". love that guy.
i went to 2 or 3 TB meetups in the Bay Yarea? fuck me. AWFUL. i think i helped put one together? some cool product demos but.... Jean. Jean was the interesting person. i've known Jean since Junior High.

i take great pride in the fact that as noted by multiple people who know me on and offline, my writing and speaking voices are fundamentally identical.

To get around my flats all having different silk colors, I just use four low E strings.
Checkmate, losers.
