Re: Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps
Let's put it this way ... I'm psyched enough with the sound of this bad boy that I just sold my other amp (Genz Benz Shuttle). I'm all in on this beeotch.

i just got some time in on the Swell that Deltz and Sousie rave about. i kinda..... hated it. couldn't get any sound out of it that didn't feel like i was fighting for some clarity. when i used the dooder at my practices spots toob head i could FEEL some extra thump in my chest, but the same thing was going on. way different responses to how i like to play and i didna really like it. also, i found i just had the output turned way too low on my Rusty. turned it up to half and i'm getting punched in the chest AND colon with my rig now.
i think...... that toobs are something i'd have to spend a LOT of time to figure them out in a way that i'm comfy with. might just be something i leave to my Ampy Betters.
so good that your rigs doing what you want it to. LOVE getting along with new gear.
I like that Swell pedal, it is higher gain than I use for my basic sound for sure. Plus I was using it with a tube amp so that might have something to do with it. Sousa ordered a lower gain version. I liked that particular pedal at about 3(not o'clock) on channel 1.

Re: Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps
hurm. i kinda hated the design. the inputs and outputs being flipped would bug the shit out of me. and having to hunt down a psu that had more than a 2 inch cord would be annoying.
i only spent about 2 hours with it, and it felt like something i'd have to adjust my eq settings at the Rusty Box level to make it sound like what i'd want out of an OD. but like i said, i think i've kinda accepted that i'm more of a SS (gah. sounds like i lurrrrrrrrrrv me some Hitler) guy than a Toober Dooder. so maybe just the Good Stuff it was doing was lost on me?

I'm curious... that looks like an SVT, but there's no way I'd associate Bugera/Behringer with lifting design elements from other companies...

Re: Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps
Yeah. I'm DEFINITELY an SS guy. I love the Swell because it can turn me into a tube guy when I need it to. But yeah, that one is pretty high gain. The output being on the right is SO weird. The chord doesn't bother me much. It fits right where I need it. But I can totally see how it's not for everyone. If I was just in an original band and not also in a cover band I probably wouldn't have swung for it. But it'll get me that gritty vintage tube sound when I need it....and I still get to keep my mid punchy not too fat and warm SS sound.

Cheapest way into a tube rig that I have seen in a longtime! I have the same head at home. A hundred loud watts. it would slay through the cab.

I didn't think I would be able to but I got the cab. Shipping was way cheaper than I thought.
I guess the head can be had...

Re: Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps
So probably gonna buy a 90's SVT tonight. I catching a little bit of friendly TB grief for my cab choices, but those cabs are going to have to suffice for the time being. I could see myself potentially getting into a fridge cab over the summer if one pops up for a good deal. We shall see. I could see myself potentially doing an 810 2x15 cab setup,...that is if 810s are 4ohm cabs.
Deltz,...I appreciate the offer you shot my way but this SVT is a screaming deal and instant gratification is preventing me from waiting.

Naw don't let people tell you what cabs to use, I personally hate 8X10 fridges... Oh and a SVT does 4 and 2 ohms..

Re: Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps
So I got it hooray. 7hundo for an SLM era SVT.
Those snobs on TB are talking with paper assholes. Rig sound great through my existing cabs.
It has a few little issues that will need to be sorted out. Tubes need to be biased which I may do on my own. The fan is noisy on power up but quiets down after a few minutes.
I may do the work myself then have a tech give it a once over for good measure.
