Hmm, I'll have to fool around with the depth control more. There's nothing wrong with it. I just thought it was going to be a bit wider in range.

The pedal sounds great on any setting. I've found some settings I really like. So, I've got no complaints.

(univalve, the last thing I need is another amp. Maybe you should've suggested getting some of my amps serviced/re-capped/re-tubed? A better idea & cheaper.)

I too am loving the clean boost side of this pedal, after playing with it for a while now i use it with the gain on 0 and the level maxed, and depth usually somewhere between 4 and 6 then EQ to taste. I use for my clean passages or a nice little boost for solo's. It seriously makes it sound like a completely different amp on clean.

As far as the depth control i agree with holy schnikes, the first 1-3 positions are minor but noticable, but 4 to 6 you really start noticing a change. to me setting 4 seems like a decent low end boost, and 6 is like cranking your bass knob on your amp from 4 to 11.

Sounds really heavy and dark, wonderfully grainy, too! Wonderful!

...but how is the sustain? I suspect from the demo video that it's not really super long, am I right? :?: :whateva: No that there's anything wrong with feedbacking amp instead of droning sustain, I've got that covered already.

Yeah, it doesn't provide very lengthy sustain, but I usually run more than one dirt box at a time. So, I've got that covered as well. It does stack really nicely.

Something about the Black Forest is real intriguing to me. I've never had much luck with overdrives for bass and I'm thinkin' this might be the one. Any bassists who've got one care to chime in?

I've seen a FB discussion where Mark explained it wasn't designed for bass. I've also seen a couple reviews where guys loved it on bass. The lows on guitar are insane once depth gets to around 4 and clarity is great so I'd think it would rule on bass. :idk:

Send Mark an email, super helpful guy.

Right on, thanks for the reply. Might just have to roll the dice on it. My confidence is growing....

My friend tried mine into her Sunn Model T with a P Bass... she's a fucking badass, and it sounded MASSIVE. She instantly said, "I have to get one". Lowend of days... insane sustain, clarity.... I def. suggest trying it out on bass.

The thing that gets me about this pedal is the way it preserves the attack, even when I'm palm muting. Such clarity. I had no idea how much my OCD was compressing the signal until I plugged the BF in. Which reminds me... OCD feeding the BF sounds really good. Fills in a bit of the midrange when you want it.

Loving the Black Forest to death over here. I pretty much dime my Marshall, and feed it with this... gain around noon, 3rd click on the dial... Viscious. Can't wait to gig with my fullstack and bask int he glory.

I've been using the BF at the tailend of my immense dirt/fuzz chain. Seems to thrive there, fucking makes everything sound super BADASS and the EQ is powerful, let's you tailor things up.

Figured I'd be running it in front mostly but my findings told me otherwise.

Thanks for this.....I had a feeling this would be the case. Hopefully I can move some pedals and score one of these soon.
Cheers!

Black Forest with a Barber Tone Press would probably be amazing. I may have to try that.
