I think it is just small runs (with the threat of never doing a run again), good marketing, being in fashion, and original circuits. At least as far as I can tell.

Yeah that would make sense. I don't doubt they sound amazing, and it's not like I am hesitant to spend way more money on gear than I should, but I was just wondering what set them apart from like the regular kinda $200 hand built boutique-y stuff

That spacepouch actually gave me some weird GAS. Also, more pedals should be made with those big ass jewel LEDs

Also, the build quality is supposed to be great, and they're definitely appealing to the boomer crowd that grew up with the Kennedy-era space race (both in price and in presentation).

There's a bizarre exclusivity/rarity thing going on with them—some people think it's bullshit, and others love it.
I bought an Aphelion and was completely wooed by it at first, but now I kind of hate it every time I plug it in again. I don't get how my opinion can change that drastically about something, other than to say I was blinded by hype.
I also was recently about to put it up for sale, when I checked the prices on Reverb and realized they were going for north of $450 on average. I then decided I might wanna hold onto it... was it to accrue value though, or for the exclusivity again? Easily both.
I dunno... I do think they're obviously very well built pedals, some of which sound pretty damn good. I also think I and plenty of other people are total suckers suckers for the hype. I congratulate them for making good stuff, but the real impressive feat is their ability to push people's buttons. Frankly their stuff makes me call myself out as lame.

There is mega hype with those spaceman pedals, I've never even heard one in person, but they really are something else in regards to the level of detail/thought in just the aesthetics of them. Scrutinize them and see a shit load of care has gone into them. I'll never own one, but I think they are very cool. Even the knobbies have a little S in them. Little pieces of art. Ode to pedaldom. Stick it in a glass case. Cherish the snobbishness of them.
