fuck, this is fantastic - 90% of the bands that do sessions for KEXP bore me to tears, so I'm happy to see something great like this up there.

I'm curious as to what a muted bass sounds like. Is it like every note you play sounds like a ghost note? :idk: if you have a bass with one can you post a demo clip so I can hear?

The sound is similiar to palm muting; a little more boomy, less sustain, more emphasis on the front of the note, less fingernoise and more even volumes between notes.

Ask your drummer if he has any of those felt cymbal gaskets. They mute 3 strings nicely

Might do some experimenting. Will high density foam do the job? And do I stuff it where the bridge makes contact with the strings?

From looking around online it seems there's a couple ways you can do it, You can put foam along the top, around the string, or on bottom. I can't really say from experience which is best, having only played the new Music Man reissues with adjustable mutes touching the bottom of the strings. I would guess that the big difference maker will be the density of the foam and how close it is to the center of the string, and how far the foam is from the bridge saddles. I'm gonna just do what is easiest and see if it works for me!

Here's my Epiphone 'Limited Edition' Ripper, I'm made up with it, just waiting til sunday when I get to play it loud/with pedals at band practice before I decide if to change the pickups in it, got a DiMarzio Split P in my P Bass which sounds awesome, so could see myself doing the same to this.

Looks nice, that would sound killer with some Dimarzio pickups. As much as I love original 70's Rippers and Grabbers, I would totally rock and black/black/maple one with just a Dimarzio Model P...or double P's.
