I used heat shrink to make a non-separable 2 cable fx loop snake out of some mogami cable i had lying around and with the FX loop on the front of my VB-2 it literally takes 10-15 seconds to setup my loop. It's really not that big of a hassle if you set up everything correctly ahead of time. But it does offer up more possibilities of problems in a live scenario, as it adds extra steps to trouble shooting if your signal drops out and more stuff to carry with you (and this has happened to me so I also carry around a spare long patch cable so I can run all FX pre amp if absolutely necessary). For me though since i use delay and verb on every song I play guitar on with DE it's worth it, but if your base tone doesn't rely on FX that would "normally" (and i use that term loosely, as its very subjective) go through the FX loop then its totally not worth it.

This is a good idea. I might try it in the future.

I'm hoping to use a Pedaltrain Jr as my gigging board, because I hardly use all my effects when playing live. I only need 7 or 8. But I do tend to use reverb a lot, and delay occasionally when gigging, so maybe I should consider a loop. I doubt I will in the end, but it's worth thinking over a little more.

A loop is possible but definitely will make the head much larger. Another tube, 2 jacks, corresponding components increasing the board length

pm incoming.

I do the same thing skip does with his fx loop cables. Instead of heatshrink, I just taped mine together and then used two different colors of duct tape to mark the ends so I can quickly set up. It keeps me from mixing up which one goes to the send and which one goes to the return. Setup doesnt take but about 30 seconds longer. I run everything out front when I use my JCM800 but I put my delays in the loop when I use my Soldano.

You could get tricky using a TRS cable and a y splitter.

Yeah, this is another reason to avoid a loop. I'm trying to keep this amp as simple as possible, with minimal set-up time. I hate carrying all the extra cables and shit.

I was thinking, should the Matamp side be closer to a GT120 or more like your cleaner DA120?

well they would have the same gain between the amps actually. The DA120 is not super clean honestly gets gritty at like 3 or 4 on the volume but you can run it around 1 to 2 for clean pedal play. Cranked its pretty dirty but nothing beyond the usual SB/SL type levels of gain. Of course darker and bassier

Yeah, that sounds about right. I'm really looking forward to hearing how that channel sounds maxed out. :snax:

7 to 8 pedals for a gig? i don't think i could do that...i have more at home but for gigs, i go in with 4 or 5 max, and thats including tuner and gate...even then i'm always worried i hit a pedal by mistake!

Tuner -> Fuzz -> Overdrive -> Tremolo -> Delay -> Reverb -> Looper

Depending on the size of the dirt pedals, I could also add in boost or an EQD Organizer. Those are the most important sounds in my rig.

I want to put a verb or a delay pre-dirt again. I love that sound so much, but my board is so small. I don't feel like getting a PT-1 again though, although it would be REALLY nice to have a volume pedal back on my board

May as well take the time to tell anyone I'm selling my big ass 32x15.5 pedal board. I used to have so many pedals in my days of making nothing but ambient music at home then when I started legitimately playing with my band I went down to what I have now. Volume Pedal, Tuner, Overdrive, Fuzz, ep booster, analog delay, digital delay, trem, verb. I sometimes think that this is too much.

I need to see if I can fit all of this on a pt jr.

mine is

Tuner -> gate -> Wah -> OD -> Fuzz

then again...i'm the rhythm guitarist in my band...so if i was i lead, then i guess i would add a boost and delay to that...maybe...
