It is! Haha I'll see what I can do, no mics or good pres around but I'll try to rustle up something worth listening to with my rubbish interface or phone. Doesn't really sound huugely different to a wood board to my ears, maybe more so acoustic than amplified, but it's got sustain for days and feels lovely to play. Plus it's shiny.

EDIT:

Ok that turned out much better than I expected, here's a rough demo, it runs through the pickups and tone controls and stuff. Apologies for the massively inconsistent volume and occasional clipping, maybe it's just me not being used to actives or something but the neck pickup is MUCH louder than the bridge. :?: I will not apologise for tuning mistakes.

Here are my bass machines. Just finished up the Bass VI. I've had the Dano since about 2001.

New bass got here today. Ric 4004L. Just need to do a setup and throw some heavier strings on there and I'm set.

That whole rig just looks so intimidating and brutal

They're not mine yet as I borrowed them about a year and a half ago from a really cool dude under the condition that I fixed them up and took care of them. I mentioned I was going to switch to bass and he told me he'd give be a good deal for them. I should be making an offer soon, hopefully.

Time has come to make an offer on these beauts so that I can finally make them mine. Wondering what you guys think?

$1250 for the Precision. I see mid to late '70s Precisions sell for $1500 in great condition and all original. Sunbursts with rosewood fretboards get a bit more for some reason and Antiguas get the most. The one in my hands has a non original pickguard, missing thumb-rest and pickup cover. Pickup will need to be replaced or re-winded as both coils where open/intermittent when I got it and while I got it working, it feedbacks quite badly at gig volume even when clean.

$1500 for the 4001. Prices on late '70s/early '80s 4001 are all over the place. It depends on finishes/binding/pickguard. I see that Azureglo is very popular and they are selling for around $2000 along with the tuxedo white finish/black binding/pickguard and black with black pickguard. Mapleglo, a few bursts and black with white binding/pickguard are fetching less at around $1750. The one I have I repaired a crack and lifted fretboard at the truss-rod. It also needs a new truss-rod block as the aluminum one is fucked and the rods hold very little tension because of it. One knob was broken/repaired very badly.

Just got this...1980 Tokai Jazz Bass JB120
.
This thing's been played and had a hard life for sure. Took me a couple of hours to get it set up halfway decent -- the neck looked like a banana but I've straightened it out and polished the frets. Bridge pu was in the gigbag with no wires attached and replaced by an Artec that was wired out of phase with the neck pu. Fixed all that, cleaned the pots, and as soon as I can find my drill I'm going to replace all the pots with decent CTS ones (the holes are for those tiny Jp pots) and the cap with a nice PiO.
It's missing the pickguard, but I think it kinda looks cool the way it is.

The neck was absolutely filthy and had a serious bow to it when I got it, but luckily the truss rod seems to be in good shape and I managed to straighten it out. Cleaned and oiled the board.
It's such a good sounding bass, very lightweight and resonant. With a good setup, it's awesome and cost less than 1/10th of the vintage 64 Fender Jazz I was looking at too.
I likes it.

Jesus fuck. Way better basses than guitars up in this piece. Those Rics got my Bass Bone quite hard indeed.

the J pickup sounds weak and thin. I just keep the P pickup soloed for now.

I've played a quite a few Jazz basses and PJ hybrids... And I've never heard an unclefuckin J bridge pickup worth hearing.
