Yeah I'm not the most knowledgeable connoisseur of filmmaking but they do some noticeably lovely angles and takes

The show runners do a podcast for each episode too which is often pretty great.

So, this looks like it might be interesting.

Probably not enough to get an HBO subscription, though.

Oh shit, that might actually be the push I need to upgrade my Crave subscription. I've been toying with the idea for awhile

Even if starts well, I’m losing confidence in HBO sticking the landing. See GOT, Westworld. It ends up like a prestige TV version of Lost.

See Westworld is one of the things I really want to watch on HBO, but literally everyone I've talked to has told me to only watch the first season

Stopped watching the second season, and was liking the show as S1 closed. May revisit and enjoy more on binge, but it’s like they ran out of ideas and just decided to milk it out with a bunch of conflict/violence that wasn’t going anywhere so seemed meaningless.

I'm returning for Westworld Seas3, even though the second season began really pulling the rug out from under me. Many times, it seemed.
HBO has a better record of wins than losses for original series though, so I dunno how you guys are arriving at "always fucks it up" or whatever.

i've only watched Westy Season 1 and GoT from HBO series stuff. i have noooooo opinion on how they roll long term.
the GoT going shitty is more RR Martin's dick hole fault for not writing the freaking books out. there's been decline after decline as they passed the written chunks.

I dislike how Arya is this super powered anime ninja now.
And every episode in this final season is "tune in to see which minor character dies because we have no guts anymore".

it's just shit writing all around.
the fuck does Euron get everywhere necessary with no one noticing? the fuck does he hit a flying dragon 19 times from a moving ship at like half a mile? the fuck didn't Cersei wipe everyone out instead of just killing Meisendehrgehere? the fuck doesn't Arya Many Face her little ass into King's Landing where THEY MADE A POINT OF THEIR OPEN GATE POLICY and hack up Cersei, ending the fight? the FUCK does Jon Snow not tell Ghost how he's the bestest boi? the FUCKKKKK is Daenerys turning into the Mad King after 6 seasons of her striving to be the opposite?
just.
the FUCK.

The writers don't have any book material to base the show on anymore so now it's back to standard fantasy TV writing lolololol
Winterfell is our last stand, so let's not defend it from inside the fortified walls! Let's build a shitload of trebuchets and fire them all one time at nothing in particular! Let's have the titty witch enchant these dudes-who-fucking-hate-magic to have flaming swords and then make them suicide charge straight into the pitch black at an unknown enemy! How could they have died, oh nooo
Is Jon gonna die?!
lol nope
Sansa and Tyrion are gonna go out via suicide pact in this crypt!
lol jk they're just getting ready to run away
The one character left who is known to be able to revive the dead will totally revive fire sword guy, who is known for being revived many times!
lol nah we just dragged him into this room so he could die anyway
Bran is gonna pull off his face to reveal Arya in a cunning trick!
lol let's just have her sneak past a million zombies and then jump onto the big boss like an angry cat

I'm about halfway through season two of Westworld. It definitely isn't grabbing me the same as the first season, but I still think it's good. I'm just watching an episode every couple of days plinking my way through. The whole thing that I liked about season one was that it is a really interesting take on personal identity and philosophy of mind stuff. I think it is the most interesting depiction I have ever seen of an expansion of the Turing test/the Chinese room. That intellectual exploration is all still present in the second season, even if the actual episodes don't have me on the edge of my seat as much.

I completely agree with all of this frustration. Throughout the whole thing, there have been lots of moments where I've assumed they were making some of the characters really stupid on purpose.
