After this's all over, I hope the U.S. gov't bills Trump for the damage he's done to our reputation

Our foreign policy hasn't been great since Vietnam. That doesn't have much to do with why Trump is the Republican nominee though or even why a person would lean Republican this election cycle.
I think it goes back much farther than that, but, you're right, Trump's the Republican nominee because we, as a nation, watch too much TV.
Wrong. Immigration and Islam are the issues. I know legal immigrants who are worried about Islamic terrorism so they're considering Trump for obvious reasons.

The problem is I can't watch that because I dislike him and hate that element of pop culture [tv] so I need to to transcribe it for me :p

Bingo. So why pick the obvious puppet? I realize it could all be a show. Looks like pageantry.

Because there are marginal differences that make an impact on the country, the world, and my role in it. IDK if you saw the story I posted a few pages back, but I have already dealt with a Trump-esque head of government for the last six years or so. It's shitty to live under, it's exasperating to watch unfold, and it's frankly embarrassing to be associated with in any degree.

One possible observation: Your friends are scared of Islamic terrorism because they don't understand probability. I live in the (sort of) sticks -- I'm much more afraid of being in the crossfire of some militia dude shooting up our city's Somalian neighborhood or getting pelted with bricks and shit by pissed off Somalis (and other resettled refugees)* than I am of Islamic terror, because there's basically been no effort to integrate people into "normal" American society, and that's bred resentment on both sides. That has fuck all to do with the situation in the Middle East, and much more do to with the fact that people's empathy doesn't extend very far beyond their own backyards: an attitude I think Trump, and his excuse for a platform, actively encourages.

*I could of course, be pelted with bricks and shit by pissed off militamen and shot at by Somalis, but that's sort of nitpicking.

So, basically, my vote is going to go in repudiation of being a dick, even though I realize that the differences between the two candidates can be (and have been already) argued into semantics ad nauseum.

I live in the bay area and work in Oakland. Muslims are visible. I'll tell the people I'm referencing they should just pray the odds are in their favor. They're thinking of this, please count them:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of ... st_attacks

One thing is certain, just as there are no rattlesnake bites in Nome, Alaska because there are no rattlesnakes in Nome, Alaska, there would be no acts of Islamic terrorism in the west if there were no Muslims in the west.

Somalis are Muslim in Maine too brah. The effort to integrate them was putting them there in the first place. The people didn't choose it, the Federal Government did. Remember your puppet master? Did you ever stop to think maybe Muslims could work on their empathy?

Wait. I'm a little tired for this shit. Are we actually tryna say that the racist fearmongering around "Islamic Terrorism" is anything other than racist fearmongering?

Yes, this is what I meant. People who may actually identify with Mitt Romney. Those who believe in trickle down economics, not because they're stupid, but because they know it works...for them. (The quotation marks were referencing the fact that I think conservativism is by definition xenophobic and the Trumplings are truly more conservative than those who claim the term...but that's another discussion entirely)
Ok cool, that's what I thought.
We have a similar set down here. Not quite as Reaganomics focused but more about fucking off the mentality of social welfare for entirely because, well the plebs just abuse it and they don't know what to do with it anyway.
The Young Liberal Party and young people that aspire to be in it are a wondrous beast to both loathe and behold.
They're like a Mormon blowjob party in the Hitler Youth scout hall.

For everybody else, I know what a fucking conservative is. I made it to 33 with at least vague political awareness, and although I know there's a cultural gap between some of us some of the time, please rest assured I have the fucking basics down. I was asking about the notion of the educated conservative to see if it was congruent with the demographic we had here and I understood fully what snip was saying. Turns out they're fairly homogeneous. Glad I learned that up.
Don't forget I come from the county where the conservative party (or one of them) is called the Liberal Party.

Digest that for a second.

And now I'll add that they are called that because they are conservative in liberal amounts.

And also this.

Sorry PV, I wanted to keep those two points seperate.
To be honest islamophobia deserves its own thread.
But as an atheist, I probably shouldn't start it.
Or, maybe I should.

Fuck it. Someone else can do that and watch it turn to shit.

Less whiny politics talk and more talk about how hilarious the RNC has been.

Like cmon, not even one mention of Ted Cruz actually snubbing Trump at the RNC. This is INCREDIBLE.
