Would have to be 2 effects chains in parallel with a gate or cv/mod input on each. Each output of the mbirra would be split into audio feed and trigger output. Would probably be a pain to do with hardware, but really simple with Ableton or other software. Sorry, my brain always goes there first...

So I want a mbira with a piezo pickup. Not something giant and crazy like the Array Mbira, though. Something smaller and more reasonable. Where do I get one?

I don't think I have ever seen any commercially available mbira's with pickups, but I have seen kalimba's with pickups. Link below. I think I am going to buy one of these too actually.

If you really want an mbira, not a kalimba, and wanna mic an mbira, and don't mind the looks, you can just tape a piezo on the back of it. I have done that and it works well. The only thing about the piezo though, if your mbira has buzzers like bottlecaps or shells, the piezo won't really pick the buzzing up.

If you get one, be sure to let me know and post some clips. I would love to hear it.
