Re: Any solid state love?
Weird, I thought I had posted about it in here, but I guess not. I've been using a Yamaha SS for the last couple of years now. It's the VR6000. I'll try to find a pic on google after I post this, but I couldn't find anything online when I originally bought it. It has low end for days, three band EQ + the ability to boost/cut certain frequencies, reverb + chorus (reverb is useless, chorus is alright as long as you use it subtly) and the dirt has this cool, kinda grindy sound to it. The thing loves my muff too. It's stupidly loud, and I don't think I've turned it above 1-2 at my apartment (even then it's loud enough for you to feel it, and it makes everything shake + knocks things down).
Also, there's some Traynor combo at a pawn shop near me. I can't remember what model, but I think I might check it out one day. Not sure if I wanna do that tho cus I might like it, and I'm already seriously thinking about getting either that new EHX fuzz wah thing (been wanting a wah anyway, and that + an expression pedal seems perfect from what I can tell in demos), a boss dd3 or some weird, noisy fuzz...

Cool looking Japanese electronics of the 80s look ... a cool style that can't be duplicated (the JC-120 has that look) ... I'm thinking of picking up a Yamaha fifty112:

Dude, I picked up a Randall RX120RH and it is AWESOME! I picked up a blemished factory refurbished head and it had a tiny scrape on a corner. Unnoticable unless you look for it. There are other factory refurbs available for $199.99. I offered to pay $175.00 and they accepted. With tax it was $207.00 ... There is still a listing:ShaolinLambKiller wrote:

See if you can get below $175 if you are interested ... it came with a footswitch ... You still get a warranty ...

There is/was a Randall Commander 4x10 that's been taunting a friend and I on Craigslist. Super cheap. But super broke/invested in nicer gear.

Re: Any solid state love?
I'll see if I can put some audio together ... but the actual amp looked great; it didn't look used at all and functioned great; for some reason I had the impression that the RX would be cheaply built but I was shocked by the fit and finish ... everything about it was top notch but it didn't have the original box, only the amp, power chord, foot switch and instructions for use ... and they are in Missouri so I imagine shipping to you would be fast ...ShaolinLambKiller wrote:JereFuzz wrote:Dude, I picked up a Randall RX120RH and it is AWESOME! Yeah, it definitely has that aesthetic. A much better amp than any of the JCs that I've played thru too imo. Can get low enough for me to doom out, and if I pull the treble out on clean channel, it totally nails the Talking Heads circa Remain In Light/Gang Of Four guitar sound.
The fifty120 looks cool. What's the deal with the power switch? The Peavey bass amp that I had several years ago had an on/off/on switch too, and I never found out why it was made like that.

Yeah, I just noticed that on-off-on scheme .... My studio beta lead also has that type of switchSwordfishtrombone wrote:Shit, I forgot to even find a pic after posting. Thanks!JereFuzz wrote:I found a pic:

Re: Any solid state love?
We'll, I got the fifty 112 and it's great. In very good shape considering its age, loud, not too heavy ... But its reverb cuts in/out and the distortion is limited, it is more like a non-aggressive fuzz ... As far as the on/off/on switch I had an interesting experience - I plugged the amp into a crowded power strip and w/one of the "on"s it was dropping in/out but with the other "on" it worked fineSwordfishtrombone wrote:Shit, I forgot to even find a pic after posting. Isn't it a ground thing? Old peaveys have it, just use the one that has less noise
