Same post over in the GAS thread....

After searching for the right to come along, AND in the right condition.... I got 'er....

1967 All original Blackface Fender Showman.
In my humble opinion, the best 6L6 clean amp ever made. This is THE amp for pedals. Brilliant clean sound, doesn't break up at all, and the coveted AB763 circuit - non-master volume. Dome light jewel has been replaced to an orange one, and a grounded AC cord.

Tubes: NOS tall Sylvania's from the 60's, Telefunken 12AT7 and 12AX7, two Dumont 7025.

WOOOT. :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!:

You can bet your fargin arsehole all future guitar demos will be played through this.

Dat Twin Rehouse is so sweet. Nicely done Chiller. Someone said that you have sweeter gear than most. I think that claim holds some water.

Speaking of rehousing and Showmen. A rehoused Showman popped up on the Local CL for like $375 (with one of those grey rat fur fender 4x12 cabs). I'm not aware of any details. I contacted the seller but he is incommunicado. Going off his pics I didn't see any tubes,...so,....eh? Did Fender produce a Showman that was solid state?

Today was NAD in the warwick.hoy household.

I bought an SLM era Ampeg SVT-CL today. I'm soooooooo stoked. It has one or two small issues and I'm thinking I'll do the work myself. The cooling fan is noisy but will quiet down after a bit, I think the bearings are going out on it. I'm thinking about replacing it with a quieter one full stop. The tubes could stand to be Biased,...although the more I think about it the more I think the seller was just being paranoid about it. I think I need to adjust the bias anyway to fit with my cabs. Beyond that I'd like to get it to a tech to get a clean bill of health.

It sounds amazing with my cabs,...although I'm pretty sure I have a blown tweeter in my 410. Can't say that I'm all that jazzed on tweetz to begin with. It amazes me that a 300 watt tube amp can push just as much volume as 900 watts worth of solid stateness.

I'm going to hang onto my solid state gear for the moment, just to have a backup until I get the SVT's little issues sorted. Beyond that I'm happy to finally join the Tube Bass amp world. It's been about a year and half I've wanted to move to an all tube amp. So much fuller of a sound,....I feel like this is the sound I've been missing for a while. We'll see if it's still there once the novelty wears off.

Sorry for the crappy iPod pics. I left my camera at home.

They made the "Super Showman" which has absolutely nothing in common with the classic showman (AB763) or dual Showman.

Curious, do you have the pics? I'd like to see it.

Congrats on that! :thumb: I was never a fan of the ole 'peg but respect its place in history. That will most definitely give you some awesome toooooby goodness and compression when slamming the front end. ROCK :joy:

have you tried switching power tubes?

Nope, haven't been up to that yet. My first time with that kind of problem. It is kind of weird, because the amp is no older than 3 years.

frankly - it's not unusual switching tubes after 1-2 years i'd say... do so :) helped me ;)
