Dem weird physics that allow for hilarious unintentional deaths.
Dat latency-based leading.
You die in 3-4 shots, only way to heal is to find a bunker or friendly medic.
Tanks can't fire across the entire map. Planes don't fly at a million miles per hour AND you can actually shoot them down...with machine guns!
No easymode radar, everyone on your team actually communicates because the spotting system only shows you that a friendly in that area saw something. People even type! They even talk like human beings!
When you accidentally run your plane into a teammate's, you get a "lol" instead of "FAGGOT".
Headbanging in jeeps.

Oh man, this really is the best game ever.

oh gad...how did you get it to work? compatability mode? or is their some unofficial patch floating out there??? do you have to run as administrator?

It ran terribly last time I had it installed(15-20fps constantly), so I gave up on it for a while. Not that it matters, but for convenience's sake I used a noCD version of the most "recent" patch, then I used this tool on the exe that lets older 32-bit programs use more than 4GB of RAM.
Punkbuster is no longer supporting 1942, but I found a user-made version of it that patches the game correctly so you can play online without getting kicked every 5 minutes for PB timeouts.
The magic secret to running the game well seems to lie in Xfire, the messenger program that lets you join friends' games, chat with them ingame and such. It was really fucking up bf1942 for some reason. I just close it before playing and it's been 60+fps all day. Simple fix, if your problems are caused by xfire. If you aren't running it but you're still getting shit performance I dunno what to tell you :idk:
You do have to run the installers as administrator for them to work correctly though.
I can upload that stuff if ya want.

okay, i'll probably end up buying Diablo III because i've waited 12 years for a new one and i'm weak, but i'm going to wait as long as possible.

because FUCK THEM. it's insulting that not only can you not play a game that you paid $65 for without an internet connection, IN SINGLE PLAYER MODE, but if their server goes down you can't use the license for the software you PAID FOR? it's fucking ridiculous, it's evil, it's NOT the intent of purchasing product, and the only way i can let them know how much it offends me is to not purchase it. i already sent emails, but money out of their pocket is the only thing they'll listen to. granted, with the amount of money they're making without me, even THAT is probably a futile gesture....... but still.

that pisses me off SO MUCH.

if you want, I'd appreciate it. Is it something that's out there online?

I'll pretend like the whole "must be online" thing is preventing me from from picking up D3...but really I can't even run that shit on this ancient machine
Needs new pc.

Oh and still waiting for The Witcher 2 to get fun. The GUI/map is horrid, battles insanely repetitive (quen, roll, button mash, quen, roll, button mash...) and the quests are much like an MMORPG (lots of go to point A to collect B but get to B and find out you need C which is located sorta near A, hike it back to A to get C so you can go get B and return to A), just without the whole social element...which is the best part of an mmo.

Story is sorta interesting but pretty generic Tolkien fantasy stuff so far...not enough to keep me playing, might send it back and start Kingdom Of Amalur.

If you can run the Witcher 2 you can run Diablo 3.

... oh.

Even though I have a bunch of consoles, I sometimes forget that they're still a thing. I think consoles are kind of like done. The idea of them seems kind of 90s to me.

Yeah witcher is on 360.

I quit upgrading my pc's so I'd stop playing MMO's
It's worked so far. It's a dangerous road to walk.

Consoles are far from dead. We'll see the extinction of the physical format by the "next gen" which should make things interesting as far as the numbers game works.

Has anyone played any of the iOs Final Fantasy ports?
I'm back and forth on picking up FFI.

I have 2 and it's pretty good. Redone art and everything. Controls are conducive to touchscreen, so if you like teh FF, go for it. Only issue is the tiny screen gets in the way of the obsessive immersion.

I'm pretty sure Left 4 Dead 2 has the worst community out of any game made within the last 10 years.
