dearest bass players

i have inherited a squire p bass which is excellent and fun to play
but i have no clue about strings for a bass
these badboys are hella rusty and dry and ouchy

where does one start on a standard like the 10-52s but for bass
or what would give the smoothest warmest sound
so on so forth u get it

Flatwounds, 10-52 on guitar would be 50's on bass. I'd suggest gettign 45's or even 40's since you have weak  guitar hands.

Or if you like a bouncier feel.. 50's are great for that punchy 60s R&B sound but I like lighter flats because they move more giving you a bouncier sound and feel, this also means I have to set my action a little higher so the strings don't clack on the frets.

Just buy strings, bro. Like bass matters anyway.

Out of curiosity; Is it a Jap Squier? Chinese, Indonesian or Korean?

I advocate for Flats on it as well,...gauge is going to depend on whether you are going with standard tuning or drop tunings. That said there is certainly nothing wrong with rounds. Depends on the sound you want. I think Flats respond better to fuzzes and octavers (if you plan on using effects).

If it isn't a Jap Squier,...I also advocate for a PUP and pot upgrade,...not to mention tuner and bridge upgrades,...but I have a feeling Mr. Teef has considered all that.
