Haha Coal Chamber. They were one of my first concerts with Slipknot and Dope in a small Seattle club when I was 15.

Man, I can't lie. When I first started getting serious about playing guitar in a band I heard them and it made me feel confident that I could do it. They knew just as much about guitar as I did (I only knew how to do a power chord) and were bigtime. I was into them for a minute. Loco and Big Truck were catchy but damn, looking back they fucking sucked then and they suck worse now.

I've never understood the hate for nu metal, except for all the stuff that's kind of not awesome about it.

I think that so many angry asshole idiots listen to nu metal that a lot of us into heavy music want to divest ourselves from it as much as possible so that people go "oh you like metal huh, like Slipkn--" "YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP RIGHT NOW"

I've said it about a thousand times - numetal and Nirvana are the reasons I play guitar. They are also what I blame my laziness and power chordy playing on to this day. I never got into Coal Chamber, but remember seeing an ad for BC Rich guitars and the dude from Coal Chamber was in it with a green acrylic Mockingbird. I thought that was the coolest guitar in the world

This. If you were into 'heavy' music at my high school you were into shit like Slipknot. I actually tried listening to a lot of the numetal shit I liked in high school and its just so silly. One of the rock radio stations around here plays 'modern rock' that all sounds like numetal with solos. It's all pretty terrible. I guess that makes it post numetal, AMIRIGHT

Bro rock on the radio today is just nu metal riffs with some dude who sounds like a more constipated Chad Kroeger yelling about being bullied/his girlfriend sleeping around and HE NO GONNA TAKE IT NO MORE

Haha yep, I remember thinking the green acrylic mockingbird was hot shit. I had a black one at some point.
I listened to a lot of stuff in my early teens that seems questionable now, but in reality it opened the doors for all the cool shit I listen to now.

They're a technically accomplished band with a defined image, aggressive stage presence, and lyrics to make every angry teenager nod his head in agreement and satisfaction. What's not to understand?

I was into numetal when I was in middle school, since I thought it was the heaviest music around. Then the summer before I was a freshman I discovered death metal and pretty much dropped slipknot and all associated bands.
I started playing bass because of the post-hardcore bands in my area though.

Not gonna lie I listened to a few songs by Godsmack, SOAD, Trivium (Ascendancy was actually good god damnit) and Slipknot in high school to get fired up for sport
