I know exactly where mine is, because when I wear my wallet in my front pocket, the bass is sitting right on top of it, and then I remember I have to move my wallet to my back pocket. It's probably about 3 or 4 inches down from Behnders.

But yeah I keep my bass in a comfortable middle position. Not too high cause that hurts my back and arms, and not to low so that my wrists are ok too. Pretty much at the height Claypool keeps his.

It's just comfortable.

I think you're right, but since I so rarely play sitting down, why would I adjust my standing bass to that? That's always been my philosophy anyway.

I know exactly where mine is, because it's centered just about right over my belt - I have wicked buckle rash on the back of my bass.

That's what they tell you in beginner books but if everybody stuck to the advice they received from Mel Bay we'd all be in the fusion geek position.

Fun fact. I figured out that in order to lengthen his straps Novoselic would tie rags to one end of the strap and somehow attached the rag to his bass.

Yeah I emulated the shit out of that. I even learned how to play his weird plucking styling.

I'm not nearly as tall as he is,...but he looks badass with his bass slung that low.

I developed my own style eventually.

hurm. yeah. i wore mines lower when i was a kicken, and since i started playing again i spend a lot time sitting at home so i kinda went for the same position.

i have HORRIBLE posture when sitting and playing though. i have to pay loads of attention to not end up all hunched over.

Mine changes depending on the bass. My Warwick is worn higher because it has 24 frets and I want to access all of them. My fenders I wear a bit lower because it only has 21 and I can get away with it.

I slap my dick, not my bass.

I can do some slap stuff, and do on occasion, but it really depends on the bass. My MTD has some good slap actions. I tend to slap near the neck too. Never knew the dude from Korn did that. Weird. I get a better sound that way unless I'm using a Stingray. Then I slap lower.

Even when I playing finger style, I'll play near or one the neck. Don't know why, I just like the sound better. I never play near the bridge. NEVER.

Play near the bridge for faster more articulate passages bro. TONAL VARIETY

Meh. I can play faster on the neck than on the bridge. Sounds more articulate to me too. Maybe that's just how I roll.

I don't like playing up the neck because I find it really muddy and I find that I basically get no character to the tone at all. I play right over my pickups, and I'll even change which pickup I'm playing over to tweak the tone a bit, rather than grabbing my tone/eq knobs.

We're just total tonal opposites, brah. I almost exclusively play over the neck.
