Ya, tasty stuff. Bill Smith retired to the West Coast even before I was paying attention to this stuff locally, but one still occasionally hears stories about/from him.
Sackville (the label) is very inneresting, tons of albums of local weirdos playing trad/"Dixieland" stuff, and then whenever anyone from the international avantgarde passed through town, they'd cut a session with 'em. You can come across a lot of this stuff in used bins in T.O.
Side note: David Lee, who plays bass on this album, is an inneresting cat. He did a later-in-life PhD and wrote his thesis on the history of free improvisation in Toronto, which is severely under-documented (and what there is skews towards CCMC and their coterie, since they had the grant money/institutional clout). Nice dude, still playing, though he's out Hamilton way now.
Damn Chank! I'm listening to July 29, 1969, right now. HEAVY and heady. And what a lineup. I actually saw Bill Frisell play with Andrew Cyrille and his band at the Vanguard last year. And I've always loved Sam Rivers. If you don't know it already, check him out on Bobby Hutcherson's "Dialogue."

Nice! Yeah, love all Hutcherson (and Sam Rivers as well).
One of my favorite line-ups of an Archie Shepp band:
