Am I even in the ballpark on how this works?

I think you are thinking about this slightly off. Normally a cab is rated as the total of whatever is inside. So if your amp is rated for 8 ohm you want an 8 ohm cab which will have either two 4 ohm speakers wired in series or two 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel.

Check out : http://www.colomar.com/Shavano/2x12wiring.html for good visuals. They also have the same thing on their site for 4x12 too. You can also use the diagrams to help visualize how to wire up cabs too, just replace the speakers with cab and the concept works the same. Amps and cabs will often have parallel jacks so just look at the parallel wiring diagrams to get an idea of how to wire up multiple cabs.

You seem to be taking this much more seriously than the rest of us are.

Think it through from my perspective. Nobody else I know is into this music. At all. I come here because while I might not have too much overlap in interest within the genre with other posters, this is the one place where I can feel fairly confident that nobody's gonna give me the stinkeye because I like music that moves more slowly than a sloth on tranquilizers. And when someone says in that supposedly-understanding place that they don't like a particular band (put aside for the moment that Sabbath is historically significant for the development of the genre - I can recognize that without liking their music), the *kindest* responses are a patronizing "don't worry, you'll grow into it" (as if my ears at 40 are somehow not yet mature), and range from there down to basically "there's something wrong with you." How would you feel, if you were me?

I don't think anyone was patronizing you, dude. Probably just poking fun. If I have learned anything about the guys (and girls?) in here its that it was doom that brought the room together but everyone has their particular tastes that branch out in a million different directions and nobody faults anyone for that. There just happens to be some big bands that most people like and are treated as icons of the genre. But not everyone digs them. I never really liked metallica and my friend who loves the more "mainstream" metal never could understand me because in his words "even people who don't like metal that much can dig metallica."

I'd probably try to take the internet, and particularly this forum, less seriously. Nobody here is legitimately picking on you because you don't like Sabbath. That's OK. The only reason I'm a particularly big fan of Sleep is because I've had the fortune of seeing them live. They have some songs I really like, but I rarely put their tunes on when I'm in a heavy music mood. :idk: I'm much more likely to put on bleak, contemporary doom (Fister, Primitive Man, Sea of Bones) if I want it slow and heavy than I am to put on "The Druid."

Also, high five to Captain Boxman on Converge. Never cared for them at all. Neat riffs and drumming, never been able to get past the vocals unless it's the one song that Scott Kelly sings on.

It's like parking a full size car in a compact space. At first u think it won't fit but you fold in the mirrors and work your way in slowly then BAM your in.

If your amp needs an 8ohm resistance and you have a 2x12 you have two options as far as loading it.

1) 2 16ohm speakers wired in parallel (+ to +, - to -): 16ohm / 2 speakers = 8 total ohms

2) 2 4ohm speakers wired in series (jack + to speaker 1 +, speaker 1 - to speaker 2 +, speaker 2 - to jack -): 4ohm + 4ohm = 8 total ohms

Parallel Divides, Series Adds

Roland TD-3 Kit with an added 3rd Cymbal and DW7000 double kick pedal. Once I got all the levels, sensitivities, and tunings programmed correctly into the module it sounded beast through the PA. Not bad for a tiny bit over $500 shipped. :yay:

WTF happened in here? im gone for 24 mutherfucking hours and all the sudden were jazz snobs, purse thowers, bossk has another whut amp is bast question and were talking about anal. . . .

bossk, bro, sweetpea, honey boo.

1 thing youre missing, that im surprised no one has brought up yet, is ANY 100 watt amp will doom

with the right cabs

a good set of cabs will make a fucking 100 watt SS 80s randall fucking doom is balls out, don't believe me? sign the fuck off ILF, go on CL and snag an 80s century 200 for 80$ and a peavey 2x15 for 150$ and call me when you find your dick, cause its gonna get stomped in the dirt by that set up.

a shitty cab will make all the dunwiches, hiwatts, model Ts, NMV marshalls, and matamps and electrics sound LIKE SHIT.

I saw you have an oversized 412, don't take this as mocking or talking shit, but that's a good start for doom. MAYBE add a 2x15 (or 2) to the setup.

OR keep the bugera / OS 4x12 and seek out a 70s SS bass rig with 215s (PEEBY KVLT) I personally LOVE mixing 1 tight amp (2203) with one loose ass ( ) amp. they compliment each other perfectly / and EQd right will sound HUGE.

2 amps 2 cabs will sound bigger, thicker and fuller then any 1 amp 1 cab, everyday of the week and, like anal, twice on fuckin sunday.

OR seek out 1 of my personal favorite doom amps that I have personally owned or played for these reasons:

marshall superbass:100 watts benched clean, classic CLASSIC amp, resale value is incredibly high, and with the 4 inputs / twin volumes (one bright one dark) theyre VERY VERY good at getting that perfect fuzz to sound JUST right.

2203: loud as fuck, loud as fuck, did I mention loud as fuck? my 2203 is MILES louder then ANY other amp ive ever heard (V4 ad140 ad200 wizard (not dunwich) classic ) the low input is PERFECT for a pedal platform amp and the "high" input is perfect for rock and roll. with the correct overdrive they can get NASTY SLUDGEY, also its a CLASSIC amp and like a superbass you will NEVER LOOSE MONEY ON THEM IF SOLD IN WORKING CONDITION.

NMV ampeg V4: loud as fuck, haunting reverb, and the 3 way switches on the EQ controls make it another GREAT amp for getting that fuzz to sound JUST right. downside? not a "normal" 6l6 12ax7 amp. they have an assortment of tubes and they NEED NOS tubes to sound correct.

why not a model t?

I remember passing on those amps for 600$ ill be fucking ~DAMNED if im going to spend 2k on one now just cause theyre cool, and to be honest, I like superbasses more and theyre not silverspoon kid's golden amp.

so TL:DR?
fucking scroll up and try again, my post is gold.

We got a find Bossk an amp thread on Dunwich. Speaker quality is elaborated on over there bro, but that's the most sensible post we've seen in 2 days

+1 for superbass

Thanks man!!!! I have another tom pad that I could add in there as an extra floor tom but I've played 4 piece kits for 10+ years so it throws me off when theres extra stuff.
